  • Will the on-screen keyboard suck?
Dvorak apparently says its gonna be the downfall of the iPhone, and Engadget says their insiders can confirm it is not the best.

Hopefully by production a firmware update will fix it.

It'll take some getting used to for people that have been using qwerty keyboards already. For someone like me that doesn't do a lot of texting, it won't really matter.

Yah I think it will work well--the nice thing is, even if it isn't quite perfect, it is all controlled by FIRMWARE, not hardware. If your Rizr's keyboard sucks, you're out of luck. But if your iPhone's keyboard is no good, you get a firmware update from Apple and bam, improved functionality.

      Smart guys. One button.

Of course, knowing Steve, he'll love that one button for years, then magically change it to TWO buttons.

Well the keyboard is on the touch screen so if anyone is having problems with the keyboard being suck, Apple can release a simple firmware update to fix any problems.

I wonder if the keyboard will flip to landscape mode to make it wider when you flip the iphone?

The only bummer for me is that I'm used to graffiti on the palm where I often can write without looking at the screen b/c each letter is written one on top of the other. The touchscreen keyboard you will have to look very closely at to keep your fingers in the right places without any tactile response. That's prob why they made the letters balloon up so you can see what you are typing.

Either way I'm pretty confident that it will be a stellar interface.

That would be cool if it did go landscape for the keyboard, and practical too. I didn't notice if that happened in the video where Steve is presenting the features of the phone but might almost be safe to say that it does: everything else switches as the phone turns landscape or portrait so that must to. Guess we'll see.

I think it has to to enter in things while browsing in safari. it would be next to impossible to horizontal browse and enter in vertically. I doubt they made a mistake like that

I remembered reading somewhere a while back that the iPhone would not do this, but who knows if it's changed for release.

I think most of the bad things told about iPhone are by people that hate apple talking about new revolutionary product.

It seems that if the keyboard would change to landscape that they would have shown that either in the keynote or one of the commercials. Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I get the feeling theres a decent amount of stuff that hasn't been revealed about the iPhone that will surprise us come launch, or the WWDC keynote tomorrow.
