If you haven't heard yet, Apple is now limiting iPhone buyers to 2 maximum, no cash sales, and you must provide your ID and credit card. No more than 2, folks!

This is obviously due to the 250k unlocked iPhones out of 1.3 million sold since the launch of the iPhone - although you can still apply for a resellers license like Apple wants.

'Doubt they'll get very far with the "No Cash" thing.

I wonder what apples investors think of this?

If apple really wanted to limit the number of phones bought they should only sell them through at&t, instead of making real apple customers jump through hoops to buy products!!!

      Hey!
We sold a ton of iPhones last quarter.
Lets limit how many people can buy so that we don't sell as much!!

      So dumb..

Have they limited at the ATT stores? Can you just walk in and buy a few, but still pay cash?

The operative word here being "debts". You are not in debt for something you haven't purchased or entered into contract to purchase yet. It's not like Apple lent you the iPhone and said "Hey, if you like it, then you owe us later." They have every right to, up front, state that you cannot purchase a product from them using cash. There are many brick-and-mortar merchants around the country that do this already as we move closer and closer to a cashless society. And how many online merchants do you think would allow you to FedEx them a handful of greenbacks to pay for your order?

This doesn't really affect me, as I am neither an unlocker nor a reseller. Honestly, I couldn't care less if they restrict sales to 2 phones by check or card only. I think from their position, it's a smart move, when almost 25% of your iPhones haven't been activated on AT&T and therefore you're missing out on almost 25% of the profit that is rightly deserved for such an innovative product.

5 per customer at At&T. They will run a credit check on you as well if you "claim" you do not an at&t account.

Maybe you should read the article again..."The new policy started Thursday, said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris. Before then, there was no cash restriction and the purchase limit was five per person."

That clearly means it's no longer limited to 5, it's now 2.

i know of people who walked in to apple stores in the us 2 months ago and bought over 30 phones....hence the reason why there are a lot of iphones out side the us, the fun had to stop sooner or later...it would be interesting to see the iphone sales in the next few months how much will this effect them...anyone know of the figures apple is getting from at&t for each iphone sold with their chip ?

Ahhhh the joys of texting....you can't "read" someone's feelings or implications...yet we all jump to conclusions on how we "think" we know what the other was implying...I was not being rude - I'm sorry you took it that way but that's not my fault.

      Reply granted :-)

i drove all the way to portland to grab some phones and was hit with this curveball, so i ended up buyin 2 from 2 stores, spending the night going back to one, going to the other, got 2 more from each , then waltz back in and got 2 more from each store again, just from different reps.. its pretty stupid though this was last weekend, I was also told that apple lowered it to 1 then bumped it back up to 2. strange
