  • [Released] iLocalis - Never lose your iPhone 3g again!
Just released via the MMi Cydia source iLocalis the ultimate in iPhone tracking, remote control, and more.
    Digg it

What's that image above? That is from my account on the iLocalis website and it is where my iPhone was located 22 mins ago. With iLocalis you can set how often you want your iPhone 3g to send its current location to the iLocalis server and your iPhone will be tracked.

What can this be used for?
    • Never lose you iPhone. If it is missing just log onto the iLocalis site and you'll know where it was located last. These things are expensive and losing them sucks. Problem solved.
    • Retrieve a stolen iPhone. If your iPhone is stolen you can log into the site and check out where it's at. Extra features built into iLocalis allow you to send text messages or make calls on your iPhone when you don't even have it with you. If you iPhone is stolen log in and send yourself a text message. If the thief changed the sim card you'll have their phone number!
    • Allow your family and friends to know where you are. iLocalis will send a message to your friends when you are near by. You can also set it up to allow your friends to locate you. If your friend also has iLocalis you can send messages to each other for free. No txt messaging charges.

    • Need family or someone else to know where you are? You can share a map of your location data with whomever you choose with a temporary URL that will expire when you set it to expire.
    • iLocalis can also be used for a business that needs location services for their employees. Employees carrying iPhones with iLocalis can be tracked via the web site easily.

This app really works! Although there are a few bugs with cookies expiring and having to log back into the app occasionally on the iPhone it appears to send your location the the iLocalis web servers the whole time. I turned it on and went for a little drive and the app did a great job tracking where I went. I also tested the send text message feature. I sent a text message via my phone from the iLocalis website and it worked just like it is supposed to.

Need your iPhone's location to be tracked? Want to increase your chances of recovery if your iPhone is stolen? iLocalis is for you so grab it from Cydia already! Once installed on the iPhone just hop on over to the iLocalis site and you can see what's going on! Unfortunately at some point (10 days) the free trial will end and you'll have to donate to keep the features going. The good news is that at a minimum donation price of $2.50 for an entire year subscription it's really not unreasonable at all.

Was getting the cookie error, not anymore.

Working really well now. This program doesn't pop up a confirmation to locate you, a problem I had with Cylay.

Ouch, I tried it out today and I had a half battery after 7 hours of no use .

Time to mess around with the update time.

But overall this is really great, this is great for if it's ever stolen. I always worry about that.

I don't see this app as being a theft deterrent or a stolen phone recovery system, and this is why. So you're phone is stolen, and you get an idea of exactly where it's at. Are you gonna go knocking on doors asking for it? From a legal point of view you wouldn't have any ground to search, and the police will NOT help you. They can not enter someones home and search all over just because your laptop tells them your phone is in there. The ramifications out-weigh the chance you're 99.9% right. Not gonna happen. So this app, as great as it is to track your phone, probably wont get it back for you. It's "neat". That's about it.

Good point. I would still break in and grab it. or get a group of friends, go to the house, knock the guy out, and grab it. then run

hmm isnt that what oj did? maby that wont work then. i dunno

or it would be good if you just lost it. and not someone stole it.

lol at grabbing your homies just to break in a jack a phone.

anyways i figure it out it was iBlacklist and voipover3g that was causing the mess up i had, not this.

However I cannot get anything to work on the app. Website does not show phone location. i had it set to update my location every 60 mins and on the website it show the last location to be 16 hrs ago and to be in the middle of the atlantic ocean.

      remote call doesn't work
      sms command doesn't wokr

      :/

i just reset my location warnings and no warning pop up when i open ilocalis, even when i go to my location it would just keep on "trying" to get my location. could this be why this app is not working for me???

EDIT: ok i tried to reinstall ilocalis and i find that i cannot reinstall or remove the daemon both reinstall and remove will bring up a source error: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

      what gives?

about the battery life issue... while its awesome to sign in and see where you have been, theres no point in having the system active all the time as it can be activated by the website anytime, where you can also change the rate of tracking and even track it in real time.
also it is a deterrent because if some1 steeal you phone you could use the message box system to freak them out by letting them know that you know their exact location ect... of course it all depends on who has your phone... great if just lost at the park something.
and if someone stole it i doubt they would know anything about jailbreaking or how to remove apps thru cydia.
restoring it i see as the only real problem.
great app to have on your phone, great how you can activate it and disable it throught the website.

so does this track your IEMI (or whatever its called) or something else on your phone. This program should be able to trace your phone even if someone formats your phone or un-installs the program. Let me know when it does that and ill give the dev team $50.

the app is not working for me atm but i've notice that i can't uninstall the daemon. maybe this is intentional

you might have to manually remove the daemon by sshing if it doesnt uninstall. that would be wicked. but if you could track the phone without the program all together, there could be some pretty scary implications of someone else being able to track your every move and control your phone. im alot happier the way it is

As for all the comments about not being very effective against theft - I think this program is really more as a safeguard if you lost your phone, rather than if it was stolen, and to help you get it back BEFORE someone picks the loner iPhone up off of the ground and takes it home to restore and pop their SIM in.

Think about it, have you ever gone to movie and a dinner, and when you got home you reached into your iPhone pocket (everyone has a pocket reserved for their iPhone, right?) and there was nothing there? And then the thoughts start going through your head: Did I leave it in the car, maybe at the restaurant, or in the bathroom, what if it fell under my seat in the theatre, or in the parking lot??? With this you could see exactly where you had dropped it, and make a B-line to go get it before someone else finds it. Plus, you would be able to tell if someone else already had picked it up! Not that it would do you a whole lot of good then...

Dude, cash, I know where you live now! I might just have to come visit. Too bad I'm in Dallas >_<

I think its good and it does work on the 2g iPhone. The only problem I have is it only works with wifi and not that many people here have wifi so I doubt it'll work if someone steals my iphone.

IF someone does steal it then I will pay for it just to find it. The only problem is what happens if they update the phone?

If you get a 2nd hand or stolen iphone just reflash it and there is no way it'll be tracked even with this software installed.....

The cookies are for logging into the application. The daemon continues running whether you are logged into the application or not. If someone throws in a new sim card when they start the phone the daemon will still be running as I understand it.

kinda creepy giving access of your information to something like this. what if they get hacked. how much information do you give them?
neat regardless, but not really that useful for theft, like other people have noted.
