  • 1.1.1 jailbreak achieved
looks like we're still waiting. but it's always good to see some documented progress! kudos to the dev team

    pf update:

+asap18 on the iPhone IRC got this pretty screenshot.

    pf edit, the basics:

"So what does this jailbreak mean?

Third Party apps run. Kind of. We probably have to recompile many of them for the new frameworks because many of them crash.
Springboard no longer recognizes DisplayOrder.plist. And the list of "whitelisted" apps (that is, the official Applications including Safari, Photos, Calendar, etc) seems to be hard-coded into Springboard.app
The iPhone has been activated via third-party workarounds.
The 1.1.1 binaries barely work with 1.0.2 -- at least not well enough to run the music store without major hacking.
The Mobile Terminal App works on 1.1.1.
The entire bsd suite still works -- as do standard command-line utilities compiled for ARM.
    1.1.1 references both com.apple.mobile.radio and com.apple.mobile.nike.
The jailbreak method is nowhere near ready for prime time. So please be patient."

Just my thoughts but It seams that Apple is fine with the 3rd party stuff, just not the unlocking. All this trouble started with the unlock procedures. so with that in mind just becareful about what is created for 1.1.1 and above. I think that if the unlock is abandoned (I know, I know dont KILL me!!!) we might be ok with the mods.

yea, the unlock may have pushed apple to do something. but its defiantly not something that should be abandoned.

also the ppl (person) asking about if the old apps will work. READ THE LINK THAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT b/c they talk about it.

-some apps are working, others are crashing/freezing. most/if not all will need to be modified to working with 1.1.1

Great news... but, let's not lose track of reality. "...hard at work for weeks"; it's been 11 days folks. I don't mean to bash the great work, but let's maintain some level of accuracy and by the way; what happened to the utility that was supposed to be released shortly after the 1.1.1.1 firmware to restore the phone to its original state?

They've been working on the touch since way before 1.1.1.1, it's the same firmware/software/OS/whatever.

they said they "bypassed activation with 3rd party apps" ... can some1 clarify this? does this mean they have managed to bypass activating 1.1.1 without using iTunes/AT&T? or does it just mean they've activated 3rd party applications

from the sounds of it, it means they once they broke into the phone, they were able to use 3rd party apps to activate the phone.

Yea, definitely a seperate thing from just 3rd party apps, they were able to bypass iTunes activation... This doesn't mean anything about unlocking your phone for use with any sim card / service, just that your phone is an iBrick.
