  • Downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 POSSIBLE NOW!
KMAC over at hackint0sh has found a way to downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2. Here's the skinny:
    • Start iTunes and plug in your iPhone which is running the 1.1.1 firmware.
    • Hold down the Sleep and Home button for 10 seconds. Allow the phone to power off, but keep holding down the buttons. After 10 seconds, let go of the Sleep button, but keep the Home button pressed until iTunes sees your iPhone. The screen on your iPhone should be displaying nothing right now.
    • iTunes will ask you if you want to restorea. Hold down Option or Alt, I forget which (Shift if you are in Windows), and click restore. When iTunes asks you what file you would like to restore from, navigate to your 1.0.2 folder. You may have to rename that file to .zip and uncompress it. It will begin to restore.
    • When it completes, you will get an error. The iPhone will display the yellow triangle on the screen. Leave iTunes open, and run AppTapp. This may give you an error, but you should see the "Activate iPhone" screen after.
    • Run AppTapp again. If the iPhone isn't being recognized, restart the computer and then run AppTapp for the second time.
    • Congrats! You now have 1.0.2 again! iNdependence and all other modding apps will now work.
This has been verified with iTunes 7.4.3.1.

UPDATE: Not confirmed yet, but for those having the "incorrect SIM" issue after dowgrading, try this (thanks, Doerr)

Just turn off the phone, take out the SIM card, turn it on, and when its done put it back in.

Email me your phone number and I'll try to help you out, you know mod my iphone really should set up some kind of skype network or something.

      [email protected]

But I still can't figure out this problem.

Ok so I downgraded to 1.0.2 from 1.1.1 and it works. Did independence and unlocked it. So I installed App Tapp (osx) and it kind of worked, downloaded Community Sources it worked, but when I downloaded BSD Subsystem it gives me this error ( Error during install script execution!) I don't know where to go from here, should I just reformat the phone again to 1.0.2 and reinstall App Tapp. ( Because maybe it didn't finish installing completely) Or delete App Tapp (How?) note* it took a while for Tapp App to actually sign on to the server(s), upload all of the applications that are available, also it's missing some (a lot ) OpenSSH does not show up. The same "Error during install script execution!" Came up when I tried to install Navizon GPS. Any takers?

I did the same thing and now youtube and nothing with the phone works. We have to wait until the dev team can come up with a way to downgrade the baseband.

If you are on a MAC put the file in the trash and it will re - zip the file. Now go into the trash and put it back on to your desktop and delete the zip and relabel it .ipsw at the end and you should see a lego block with a music note on oneside and a picture of the ipod on the otherside. Now your good to go. I hope this helps you.

okay so my deal is that I do not want to UNLOCK my phone to use any sim I need, I'm perfectly fine with AT&T . . . I just want to mod it visually and add 3rd Party Apps back onto it . . . should I follow these instructions or hold out until version 1.1.1 is hacked to run Installer.app etc.?

I can't get it to downgrade. I hit shift and downgrade then, I've tried changing the extention to .zip and extracting it, I open the folder and it won't let me choose the whole firmware folder. It just shows all of the little icons. I try using all of them and none of them work. Can anyone help me?

Because either you're not pressing the buttons in the right sequence. Or you're holding the keys too long.

HOME + SLEEP till the screen goes black

As soon as the screen goes black RELEASE SLEEP and continue to HOLD HOME.

Hold HOME till iTunes recognizes the phone then release it.

DO NOT hold it till you see any restore icons (triangle or otherwise). The screen SHOULD BE BLANK when you release the HOME button

      And just to clarify

HOME is the round button on the FACE of the iPhone

SLEEP is the rectangular button on the TOP of the iPhone.

So if im reading all of this correctly, this method is for those phones which were unlocked on 102, then were updated to 111? After downgrading, the unlock.app wont work anymore? Can someone confirm or correct me? Ive got a friends unlocked phone that was accidentily updated.

      Thanks

Phones that were unlocked under 1.0.2 and were mistakenly, or intentionally, updated to 1.1.1 will not restore to full functionality with the downgrade. It downgrades the phone software only (Think OS on a cmputer) It does not downgrade the baseband radio firmware (Think PC BIOS)

After the downgrade, Unlocks will not work

Neither will the GSM radio, so actual phone functions are still hosed. That means NO GSM Phone EDGE or SMS will function.

It's a partial fix. The phone can now be turned on and you can use the iPod functions, as well as anything that will work with WIFI
