If you are the owner of an unlocked iPhone, DO NOT UPDATE until we have a viable solution for either relocking and then unlocking after the update, or doing the update without bricking your iPhone. Updating an unlocked iPhone currently WILL BRICK your iPhone.

    The Basics:
    • If you have an unlocked phone, but are using AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but you will have to get a new SIM card, as the iPhone will display an incorrect SIM message.
    • If you have an unlocked iPhone, and are running a carrier OTHER than AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but it WILL relock your iPhone, and no existing methods will unlock again, so DON'T UPDATE YET.
    • If you have an iPhone LOCKED TO AT&T still, updating your iPhone will work fine. If you have installed 3rd party apps, they will be gone, and no existing methods will reinstall them.
    • No, the developers of the software modding apps have NOT updated their apps within the past 2 hours. When they do you will be notified with a new News story.

prior to attempting the 1.1.1 firmware upgrade? It seems like that increases the likelihood of success -- assuming there are potential issues with applying the firmware update on phones that are still LOCKED but have been modded with themes and third-party apps?
Nice thought, but the unlock goes much deeper then that.

so my friend had my phone and started up anySIM but i stopped it during the middle of the first phase, dumping NOS or something like that. afterwards, the att logo was not at the top on the status bar and i couldnt make calls, text, etc. so i restored the phone and everything was fine after that. what would be your opinion on my situation as to updating to 1.1.1. i still use att and have mods like installer. thanks!

lol nah I don't. I usually watch a movie in my car on my lunch/breaks etc. Also beats watching it on the iphone screen when I can watch on my 7" in the car when I'm at the mall waiting for my gf to finish her shopping.

On another thought... Do people really not just read the first post?

Obviously, but my question is.. is what he saying likely to keep from bricking if it's ONLY modded? Because some modded only have reported sim errors, etc.

ok guys all these ppl talking about bricking the iphone with the new update is confusing me.... ummm if i just bought an iphone (which i guess is still on 1.0.0) can i still unlock it? and can some1 direct me the way... cos as far as i know, itunes requires you to restore to the latest firmware(1.1.1) so you can just plug in ur iphone and restored it to 1.02 ? am i right about this guys?

ok, it dosent require you to update to anything thats your choice...you do have freedoms you know......
Another thing i know 24 pages is a lot to read through, but read all of the previous posts and then if your question isnt answered then post, its getting really annoying.

there is a way to update with mods (not sim unlocked.) It will erase your mods but, download the 1.0.2 firmware, shift (win) or ctrl (mac) click restore, pick thje 1.0.2, restore, then update. It will earse all mods but you can update without a brink

I just want to say that i am glad i didn't mod until this release was out.

the speaker volume update is worth it's weight in gold. all you unlockers and modders, i suggest you consider this update. i can hear out of the earpiece now and the speakerphone works great. Also when you play music, you can actually HEAR it without holding the phone up to your ear.

i have a few questions if anyone can help:

i have not figured out how to adjust the alert volume. if anyone has figured out how to do this it would be appreciated.

what do i need to but for the TV out feature?

good luck lockers and modders, i will be joining the modding ranks soon.

If I just buy the iphone from the store, am I able to unlock it with iTune 7.4.1? By restoring iphone from iTUne, will it update the firmware to 1.1.1 or 1.0.2? DOes it depends on the iTune version? or the restore file is from apple?
