  • 1.1.1 Released

Firmware 1.1.1 was released today. Features include:

    iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store
    Louder speakerphone and receiver volume

Space bar double-tap shortcut to intelligently insert period and space
Mail attachments are viewable in portrait and landscape
Stocks and cities in Stocks and Weather can be re-ordered
Apple Bluetooth Headset battery status in the Status Bar
    Support for TV Out
Preference to turn off EDGE/GPRS when roaming internationally
    New Passcode lock time intervals
    Adjustable alert volume

If you are the owner of an unlocked iPhone, DO NOT UPDATE until we have a viable solution for either relocking and then unlocking after the update, or doing the update without bricking your iPhone. Updating an unlocked iPhone currently WILL BRICK your iPhone.

    The Basics:
    • If you have an unlocked phone, but are using AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but you will have to get a new SIM card, as the iPhone will display an incorrect SIM message.
    • If you have an unlocked iPhone, and are running a carrier OTHER than AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but it WILL relock your iPhone, and no existing methods will unlock again, so DON'T UPDATE YET.
    • If you have an iPhone LOCKED TO AT&T still, updating your iPhone will work fine. If you have installed 3rd party apps, they will be gone, and no existing methods will reinstall them.
    • No, the developers of the software modding apps have NOT updated their apps within the past 2 hours. When they do you will be notified with a new News story.

Actually, I'm more interested in the status of the relocking tool that's being worked on. According to Erica Sadun, the 1.1.1 firmware is "locked down tighter than a WWE half-Nelson." Now, we can argue about just how tight the holds in the WWE are, but it does sound like the dev team is thinking it will be a while before they can jailbreak it, and until they can break it, they can't fix the bricking of unlocked phones.

i guess they have already produced the number of iPhones with the firmware 1.0.0, than we had to update it to 1.0.2. they wont produce new phones just because of the Firmware.
Cant wait for the new Unlock

The people that buy phones from now on...

Also as for the "why would you unlock if you're still using ATT?" question, well I, for example, am studying abroad next semester in Spain. So for now I'm fine with ATT, but i know that in a few months i'm going to need it in Europe!

That said, I actually have NOT unlocked my phone yet because I knew something like this would happen. Still I will not be updating the firmware because I <3 my apps so much. Does anyone know how the update works for people using an existing ATT account (NOT an iPhone plan?)

How is this thread 37 pages? It's the same questions / comments over and over. Do people not bother to read any of it, and just post their question about bricking/not-bricking their phones?

I AM AN ATT CUSTOMER, I HAVE A MODDED / NON UNLOCKED IPHONE. I SUCCESSFULLY DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED THE NEW 1.1.1 UPDATE AFTER IT COMPLETED THE PHONE SHOWED AN ACTIVATION SCREEN. (this made me very nervous) ITUNES WOULDN'T EVEN SEE THAT THE PHONE WAS DOCKED / CONNECTED TO THE USB. SO I ULTIMATELY ENDED UP UN-INSTALLING THEN RE-INSTALLING ITUNES, AS SOON AS I OPENED A FRESHLY INSTALLED ITUNES MY IPHONE IMMEDIATELY JUMPED TO A NEW SCREEN SAYING "IPHONE ACTIVATED" AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. NOTE IT DID ERASE EVERY SINGLE THIRD PARTY APP THAT I HAD SO ALL IN ALL THE EAR PIECE VOLUME IS MUCH IMPROVED, I DON'T NOTICE MUCH DIFFERENCE IN THE SPEAKER PHONE. IF I HAD TO CHOOSE AGAIN, I WOULD HAVE NOT UPDATED SO ALL MY APPS WOULD STILL WORK

The question is if you have a NON UNLOCKED phone but it is modded, if not having the orginal sim is causing it to be "Bricked."

So who has a NON UNLOCKED phone that got bricked?
And did you not have the original sim that came with the iphone?

Im currious to know what the "original SIM" has to do with anything.
The ATT rep told me that it really didnt matter if it was new SIM, or the one that comes with the phone. Its all pretty much the same. Dunno .. =)
