If you are the owner of an unlocked iPhone, DO NOT UPDATE until we have a viable solution for either relocking and then unlocking after the update, or doing the update without bricking your iPhone. Updating an unlocked iPhone currently WILL BRICK your iPhone.

    The Basics:
    • If you have an unlocked phone, but are using AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but you will have to get a new SIM card, as the iPhone will display an incorrect SIM message.
    • If you have an unlocked iPhone, and are running a carrier OTHER than AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but it WILL relock your iPhone, and no existing methods will unlock again, so DON'T UPDATE YET.
    • If you have an iPhone LOCKED TO AT&T still, updating your iPhone will work fine. If you have installed 3rd party apps, they will be gone, and no existing methods will reinstall them.
    • No, the developers of the software modding apps have NOT updated their apps within the past 2 hours. When they do you will be notified with a new News story.

      Hi all,

iPhone noob here. I just got my iphone yesterday and was in the process of unlocking it when I got stalled on a BSD script error. I already upgraded the firmware to 1.02, jailbreaked(?) and activated it, and loaded it up with Installer. That's where I stopped.

Now I read about all these people who have problems because of the new 1.1.1 update.

So my question is: should I continue with the unlocking process (using anySIM) ? or should I just lay low and wait for someone to address this issue with a new release?

I'd really appreciate the advice. Thanks in advance!

it's ******** man, wtf do they care if we have 3rd party apps? that only makes the iphone more fun to use.....I WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOO FREAKING HAPPY with my iPhone...I had everything in it...games...summerboard...Customize app...sketches...chat....dictionary....rSBT...Dock ...I mean tons of crap, and for that reason I was LOVING my iPhone....now this freakin' happens and I'm totally screwed....

I wonder if I could put my phone in the microwave or pass a magnet through it to completely mess it up so it won't turn on they can give me a new one at the store.

just updated mine and i have not unlocked my iphone. I have at&t service and i receive a message stating that my sim is invalid and that i have to contact at&t to get another sim card.

the only thing that i can think of is that i had my iphone replaced by the apple store and they didn't give me the sim card that accompanied the phone. they took my working sim out and put it into the replacement phone now i cannot use my phone

      Dammit!

i'm trying to restore again after putting it into service recovery to see if that does the trick but i think i have to go to at&t to resolve this sim card issue.

i called apple store and they stated that they cannot help me since they don't have sim cards available at the store when they have tons of phones that have them. They stated that he cannot open a new one just for that. I stated that he removed the one that belonged to the phone replacement that i received and put in my old one. it would have been easier for me to reactivate with the new card so I wouldn't have this problem.

Is it just me or is the TV out not very intuitive. I remember the way it works on the ipod video is you set it up in some menu to use tv out, then it goes out the headphone jack(with a stereo rca splitter la dee da).

Do you not use the headphone jack for the tv out on the iphone. Anyone got it working yet? How... thx.

It's not going to brick more than likely....its a rare percentage reporting no UNLOCKING and invalid SIM messages

I am here laughing ... laughing ... my *** off at the crowd of immature, cry babies throwing temper tantrums at Apple/Steve Jobs/AT&T.

Any grown-up, mature person knows that tampering with the SIM or jailbreaking the phone is something you do on your own and expecting negative consequences. You, cry babies, knew the rules of the game before you altered the iPhone/SIM, and Apple, on top of what you already knew, even gave fair warning of the consequences.

You have the chance to choose among 10s and 10s of other smart phones if you thought altering iPhone would cause difficulties.

Now, you unlock the SIM, jailbreak it, add apps, you read the possible consequences of such actions, you upgraded the firmware on your phone, and now you bunch of asswipe crybabies whine that you are victims of Apple, of Stever Jobs, of AT&T, you name it.

Listen buddy, GROW THE NO PROFaANITY UP.
