  • 1.1.1 Released

Firmware 1.1.1 was released today. Features include:

    iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store
    Louder speakerphone and receiver volume
Home Button double-click shortcut to phone favorites or music controls
Space bar double-tap shortcut to intelligently insert period and space
Mail attachments are viewable in portrait and landscape
Stocks and cities in Stocks and Weather can be re-ordered
Apple Bluetooth Headset battery status in the Status Bar
    Support for TV Out
Preference to turn off EDGE/GPRS when roaming internationally
    New Passcode lock time intervals
    Adjustable alert volume

If you are the owner of an unlocked iPhone, DO NOT UPDATE until we have a viable solution for either relocking and then unlocking after the update, or doing the update without bricking your iPhone. Updating an unlocked iPhone currently WILL BRICK your iPhone.

    The Basics:
    • If you have an unlocked phone, but are using AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but you will have to get a new SIM card, as the iPhone will display an incorrect SIM message.
    • If you have an unlocked iPhone, and are running a carrier OTHER than AT&T, updating will NOT brick your iPhone, but it WILL relock your iPhone, and no existing methods will unlock again, so DON'T UPDATE YET.
    • If you have an iPhone LOCKED TO AT&T still, updating your iPhone will work fine. If you have installed 3rd party apps, they will be gone, and no existing methods will reinstall them.
    • No, the developers of the software modding apps have NOT updated their apps within the past 2 hours. When they do you will be notified with a new News story.

I was thinking about going out to pick up another phone from apple. Would it be the old firmware or new one they would have???

I highly doubt the phones they're selling now have the new firmware on them already. Just a guess...

This may seem like an obvious question, but if the firmware upgrade is going to wipe all the apps and modifications anyway, wouldn't it be advisable to run the "Erase All Content and Settings" option that can be found under:

      Settings > General > Reset

prior to attempting the 1.1.1 firmware upgrade? It seems like that increases the likelihood of success -- assuming there are potential issues with applying the firmware update on phones that are still LOCKED but have been modded with themes and third-party apps?

I was thinking the same thing the phones most likely 99% have the old firmware

It wouldn't matter... you would still be able to update to 1.1.1, assuming it didn't have 1.1.1 on it. Heck, I'd sit there and have the Genius do it, to ensure no issues.

Personally, I am going to happily sit with my unlocked, T-Mobile'd 1.0.2 (even though I want some of the new features in 1.1.1) and wait out the wave. Then, depending on what the Dev team comes up with, move forward with their updates *or* return my iPhone (with the AT&T chip back in it) and claim some sort of issue in need of replacement.

I was wondering the same thing. I have everything backed up, so i won't mind losing everything.. data included. Anyone know for sure if this reduces the chances of errors, etc?

can someone please answer my question?
confirm or not confirm please- an, old at&t (cingular), legit sim from another phone, (previously activated on iphone via jailbreak), works/activates with 1.1.1? or is any activation completely out of the question at this point.

will it work if i restore, update to 1.1.1, then activate with latest version of jailbreak?
thank you to those who answer

this has to be the quickest built up thread ever! it seems it's about time to archive it and create 1.1.1 update thread, vol. 2! hahah.

you should sticky it and rename the title. "READ THIS THREAD BEFORE POSTING" or something. or start handing out some warning or temp. bans. dahhhh

....and it turned me into a newt!!!

I don't see the reason for ANYBODY to be upgrading until the dev team has got a handle on the situation.

Man, step away from the computer and go watch TV or something.
