    UNLOCK IS HERE!

FULL TUTORIAL IS HERE FOR OS X USERS!!!

Daeken, Darkmen, guest184, gray, iZsh, pytey, roxfan, Sam, uns, Zappaz, Zf, plus Nightwatch for the toolchain were responsible for this, and it is HERE! WHA HOO!

I have updated the guide to reflect the new GUI app for unlocking, it is much easier. Link updated in this post. It is here.

If you would like your voicemail to keep working correctly, follow this guide. NOTE: This already works with carriers who's name shows up in the top of the iPhone, namely, T-Mobile.

    Problems?

Check the F.A.Q. before asking questions!

i just used the app by Erica Sadun (Uploaded by poetic_folly), worked freaking amazingly. Just install app, then hit start. BOOM! within 20 mins ur iphone is unlocked and u can use it with any carrier. I confirmed with my dads sim from India!!!!!!!!1

Just thought I'd post a little impromptu tutorial for the GUI here.

This install was done with OSX 10.4.10, iTunes 7.41, and virgin iPhone.

      1. Run iNDependence. Activate the phone.
      2. Jailbreak and install SSH.
      3. After SSH is installed, return to jail.
      4. Download AppTapp and install it on your iPhone
      5. Install BSD Subsystem
      6. Upload the Unlock.app to the applications folder on your iPhone, make sure unlock.app and helper are CHMOD 755.
      7. Run The application
      8. After completion, powercycle the iPhone.
      9. Once powercycled, re-activate with iNDependence
      10. Enjoy your unlocked iPhone

could you please tell me what is CHMOD 755

chmod is just simply right clicking on the app file, then selecting all the x's do not uncheck anything else. It will automatically do that. The number below the check boxes should say 0755. Do that with everyfile in the Unlock.app folder when u upload it to ur iphone

There is now a GUI app to do this! I will be updating the guide as soon as possible, for now, the app is here, with a non-member mirror here. Basically, you'll need a jailbroken phone with the BSD Subsystem, and OpenSSH installed, then you upload this app to your /Applications directory on the iPhone, restart the iPhone, and run the app. Thats it.

      hi poetic,
so sorry for my bad english

i put the GUI on the phone, i run and the phone made 4 steps...

·All files found, ready to go, press start (aprieto start)
      · Copying files
      ·stopping commcenter
·flashing firmware (allow 20 minutes for this to complete)

i wait, but nothin happens.... what i´m missing???? tks a lot

What is the status? you still need SSH, BSD, Community sources (working) to use the GUI app...

I tried TMOB EDGE today with my mod'd, unlocked phone with no success. Said it could not activate EDGE. Anyone else? I'm looking for options to get this working as well...nobody is going to want an iPhone that doesn't have 'net (even if it is only EDGE).

Borrow somebody's T Mobile SIM card or buy a cheap prepaid non ATT SIM to test it with (or just cross your fingers when you actually get overseas and NEED it )

Thanks. This is big issue before making the huge switch again.

Also, once you have unlocked your phone with the unlock.app can you delete the program off of your phone???

i'm in hong kong here appreciating all the time/effort you and others are spending to make our lives better. thanks.

i'm having trouble with the minicom step. first, following the instructions on this site, i got to step 5 of http://modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/How...iPhone_iUnlock

      when i typed "minicom -s" i got

      -sh-3.2# minicom -s
      -sh: minicom: command not found

it appears my system didn't have minicom and the package i loaded per instructions didn't include the minicom package. is this correct?

i then searched for a minicom package to load and found one here
      http://www.freeiphoneunlock.com/guide/
although it looked like it was for windows i downloaded it anyway and put it via fugu into the iphone /usr/bin/ directory

i then did the following from that same directory

      -sh-3.2# chmod +x minicom
      -sh-3.2# minicom -s
minicom: WARNING: configuration file not found, using defaults
      No termcap database present!

i would really appreciate any advice you can give here. the problem appears to be that i haven't been able to access minicom. perhaps the package i grabbed was the wrong one? i'm on the following system:

      mac os 10.4.10
      iphone 1.0.2

      using fugu, iNdependence and Terminal

all is good. saw your posting here and followed it and all is good.

I unlocked 2 brand new phones last night with no crazy issues - 1 4gb and 1 8gb phone. the 4gb one required me to put the termcap file in /etc for minicom to work, but that was resolved rather quickly with a quick google of the error code. I would try googling any error messages that you see in the process for speedy resolution (and post here ). I'm trying out the manual unlock app now to see if that causes any issues - with the manual version of the free SW unlock, I just made sure that the returns on the check commands came back with exactly with what the How-to had on it (the bbupdater -v piece, the main unlock piece and the minicom commands).

post if you still have issues - preferably with more info

There are probably 4 or 5 different guides and links posted on this page. What have you tried so far? It is tough to help when we're not sure if you're running windows, mac OS X, unix, linux, minix, palm os, solaris...from there, we can begin to coach. The more data you give us, the more we can help.
