  • End Of The Line for iPhone 3G : No iOS 4.3 Support

Taking a close look at the details released about iOS 4.3, it is understood that the iPhone 3G will no longer receive further iOS updates. Apple's website Apple - iOS 4.3 Software Update, lists the compatible devices as the 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G and 4G. This means no support for the verizon phone either.

With all the complaints about iOS 4.x on the 3G, it makes sense to see them drop the support, but it could leave many users displeased.

Any 3G owners that are not happy with this move? We want to hear from you!

Probably should have been end of the line at 3.1.3 for iPhone 3G.

If 3G owner's aren't happy, they need be realistic. Their phone is nearly 3 years old at this point. How many other OS's receive the kind of support Apple has had for the 3G even on 1 year old hardware??? Not Android. Not windows. Hell, go buy the newest and greatest Android phone right now and unless its got "Nexus" in its name (1 phone right now), you'll get it with an OS that's nearly a year old.

And iPhone 3G owners wanna complain about how they won't get 4.3 lol? Pathetic. Apple is so far beyond generous with its old hardware updates. Go try out Android and enjoy your firmware updates (if you ever get them at all) 6-12 months behind the curve.

I'm surprised Apple even included the 3G on iOS4 at all. Installing it on an iPhone 3G was like hauling a Peterbilt truck with a Ford Fiesta.

No surprises there. 3GS will be dropped with iOS5 I'd say.
Its a shame really, Apple could optimize iOS 4.x much better for the slower CPU of the 3G and get most features working but it's just not work their while. I'd love to know how many 3G's there are in the wild still active. Granted part of the reason why you don't see them is that Apple drops feature from older hardware to push upgrades.

Why won't Verizon's iPhone 4 be supported again? Oh wait, it will, because it's an iPhone 4.

I think I saw an iPhone 3G in an antique shop

Anyone who still uses one doesn't know what it's like to use a good iPhone

I see the 3GS getting most updates like ios5 I think it's how fast the devices is on the firmware that matters and the 3GS is a decently fast device

AGREED....phone versions should die with the OS, as the firmware updates usually mean the hardware in some cases, has been drastically changed. Meaning faster, more storage, better resolution...more power in genearal! Can't wait for 4.3...oh and the Jailbreak on day ! woohoo!

Why on earth would you want to keep your 3G alive, its a dead device that is very slow, get with the times ppl stop acting like you dont have money. If you still have a 3G and live in the United States then you are eligable for an upgrade, spend $49 and get a 3GS if you dont want to spend the $200 on an iPhone 4...

@jdm.accord OUCH!....Why so much hostility towards us 3G users? I agree 100% with you about being realistic with a 3 year old phone, but dude, cut us some slack. Not all of us can dish out the $$$ for every upgrade that comes out. I've pushed my 3G out to the max to get my money's worth out of it and I'm pushing it another, what, another 3-4 months until the iPhone 5 comes out.

Now, as far as any further support for 3G on any newer iOS......no need for it!! I'll take the support for as long as I can, but if Apple feels like their iOS isn't gonna run efficiently on the older hardware, so be it.

iPhone 3G user should quit complaining and buy iPhone 4.

IOS is an ongoing entity, with each update it can become more capable and powerful - the 3G hardware is not powerful enough for 4.3 and obviously not upgradable.

So what can you do with wot u got? Nothing

Want to get upto date, buy iPhone 4, iPad 2 etc.

You are not screwed, you have options but to be honest most are complaining because to have the latest ios means spending cash.

Wifey shattered her IP4 screen so I gave her my IP4 and I'm using a borrowed 3G. Holy crap! This thing is SLOW. I am trying to tough it out til IP5 comes out but don't know if I can. On top of it all I was forced to update to 4.2.1 (custom firmware of course) to restore to my IP4 backup to get all my info. 4-5 months is a long ***** time.

      I couldn't agree more!

My wife still has the 3G and she complains about it every day. But she doesn't want to go buy an iPhone 4 just to have the 5 come out in a few months..

They should give her an option to downgrade her software

Hey look on the bright side at least those 3G owners don't have to worry about updating to a latest firmware then waiting for an unlock. If your unlocked now then just enjoy it. No more hassle for you of having to wait for an unlocked update.

But still doesn't kinda suck since you won't be getting any of the new features. But hopefully Cydia can provide that.
