  • New Apple Update for iPhone - v1.0.2
Apple released the new 1.0.2 update today. It's not yet known what impact this will have on existing mods...but it is a full update, with a huge 91.2mb download for the full restore. I will post any learnings...

The update requires agreement to a new Terms of Service (TOS) as well as a brief description of what it does. I will upload the TOS word doc to MMi in case anyone is interested in the legal ramifications of the upgrade...

I then called AT&T myself, after a few things (same as before) they xfer me to Apple Care. Then not long after the Apple Care guy xfer me to AT&T but stayed on the phone with me.

They took my data plan off then added it back. . .still didn't work. Hung up with them and the Apple Care guy said the following:
There's only 4 things that can be wrong with this problem:
      1. The Data Plan/EDGE Provisions aren't set correctly (they were)
      2. The EDGE Service is out in my area (according to AT&T, it isn't)
      3. Bad SIM Card
      4. The antenna in my phone that picks up EDGE & Wi-fi not working.

It still makes/receives calls and sends/receives texts fine. (I did not know there was a separate antenna for EDGE/Wi-fi!)

Sooooo, I have to get a new SIM Card from AT&T and activate. If it still doesn't work he will make an appointment for me @ the Apple Store to turn it in for repairs while getting a FREE loaner.

Nice guy, even sent me an email w/ his contact info.

Kinda strange that RIGHT before I updated the software (I'm talking about seconds before) it was working fine then all of a sudden. . .poof!
      NEXT UPDATE:
Got the new SIM Card last night, went home and activated it, still no EDGE and will not go into wi-fi mode. It recognizes my home network and joins it but it will not go into wi-fi mode even when I have no AT&T signal at all.

Been back on the phone w/ Apple Care today. They made an appointment for me at 8:00pm tonight to put my SIM Card in a loaner phone. If it works then it was my phone, if it still doesn't it is AT&T.

If it's my phone they will either do a swap for a new one right there or give me a free loaner and send mine off for repair.

      Will keep everyone updated.

That would actually be really handy...to have a working, clean base phonedmg zip. I would like a copy if you do this

If you keep the 1.0.0 firmware files in the phonedmg folder, how does this affect the updated software version when you restore? Does it roll back the update? Would make sense that you would need to update the phonedmg folder with the new firmware files. I'm a bit confused.

and yes, I am having the same problem where it will not advance beyond the booting iphone stage for the jailbreak. Thanks for any input....

Not trying to sound like a broken record, but to clarify/re-iterate

-You do have to do a complete restore, you'll lose everything
      -Original jailbreak works
      -Original iphoneinterface works
      -Manzana works

      Do the update---it's worth doing.

You dont lose everything, just your mods. Your data its restored.

And what in this update made it worth doing?

Well I never did 1.0.1 so it was great since I got the safari updates. Also the ringer is a bit louder, that's nice to have.

Okay... wow, I'm really confused here... last time I updated, i had to restore my iPhone entirely, then as it was restoring all my synced info, it got an error... I lost everything, including my contacts. Is there any way to avoid this for this update?

Sorry guys, but I'm new to this...

Does we know which files cause us to fully restore each time we update?

this should work, for the next update if we can find the files that have changed (which i'm not sure how to check this easily), we should make an installer bundle that updates the phone or even just files to scp over..

im willing to install the update and lose my mods to make the bundle if someone can tell me how to find out what has changed
