  • I am now running a Cingular SIM in my iPhone!
Don't know if this is posted anywhere else. But...

We can now use Cingular 64k SIM cards and other AT&T SIMs in the iPhone! No need for the AT&T SIM it comes with any more!

Details to follow! I will have a write up on this. I'm pulling another all nighter here. Thank you iPhone development crew and iZsh!

So this is just for Cingular SIMs, yes? Not an unlocked iPhone...

It works with Cingular, AT&T, corporate AT&T and any virtual operator on the AT&T network. It is restricted to those in the 308 and 310 MCC.

Do you guys really need a hack to do this? Have you even tried putting a Cingular sim in the iPhone? It works perfectly fine without hacking.

No it does not work without the hack. I have the same type of AT&T SIM card in my razr and I tried swapping it to my iphone and it did not work. I get an error message incorrect SIM. I can move the SIM card from my iPhone to a different phone but not from another phone to the iPhone.

You just have to connect your iPhone to iTunes and activate it with the other att/Cingular sim card. It works fine.

will this work if your using windows to hack the iphone?
also Q for JedixJarf: so your saying that all I have to do is just get the iphone, pop out the sim thats in it, put in my 64K sim and voila, it'll work?

      yes.

      1)buy iphone
2)Put currently activated cingular sim in phone
3)phone will say it needs to be activated
4)connect to itunes, choose plan and activate
5)you have an iphone using a cingular sim.

Pffff I wish you'd posted that yesterday morning. The 12 yo at the sto told me you can not possibly use your own SIM and I activated already and all my numbers are on my old SIM

On the top, in that little silver tray by the earphones jack. Poke a paper clip down that tiny hole and it will eject out.

Man, the innuendoes are endless in that sentence.

Did you get the same number that was on the activated SIM? When I tried the steps above it did not work. It tried to create a new account and over write the account on the SIM.

You have to tell iTunes you have an existing account when it asks if you do, otherwise you just set yourself up a whole new account with AT&T.

Yeah, as pf said, you need to choose the existing account.

Can other brands of SIMS work with iPhone? Besides from AT&T and Cingular SIMS? Like, GSM SIMS in other countries?
