  • Importing Contacts to the iPhone
You better hope you have your contacts in a format which iTunes can read (.csv, etc - i.e., not from a SIM card), because AT&T has now let us know that you cannot import contacts from a SIM into your iPhone. They are however SELLING a product to import from your SIM, which will run $15. Lame.

Mine synced perfectly with Outlook. It picked up all my contact information (email addresses, all phone numbers, street adresses, ID pics) and calendar appointments. The only thing I had to do was change the time setting that controls the calendar times. I had to set it to Eastern instead of pacific time. ONce I did that I had this great new PDA, phone, music player, and email device all in one phone. It does everything they said it would.

Nice. I guess I should have been managing my contacts from my computer and not my SIM card.

From reading all the above, the least favorite answer is yes to your posed question for clarification. ((Poeticf)) has been doing it this way but as he pondered the best method is from your very own computer. I've also read that some Apple stores and a few AT&T / Cingular stores would sometimes do the transfer for you. That’s been months ago so call first. Also in this same thread they indicated there is a $15 dollar program you can purchase to do this task for you. These guys here pretty much know these things like they created the iPhone themselves. Now it's up to you. The information is here at MMI but there is one catch we all had to do from time to time, (read) till you find it in a form that meets your learning modality and you are set! They seem to frown on the lack of that part so; no question is a bad one so ask at your own risk should “the answer my friend is written in the wind.”

Why do telcos decide to do things backwards these days ..
eg: when u renew a contract and decide to get a new phone .. they tax u an activation fee. "Remember kids, commitment comes with a price!"

Does anyone know the name of this software and where it can be purchased or downloaded?? As Google returns nothing on this

Basically it will be a simcard reader, usb or such and it will allow you to copy your contacts onto your computer, I am sure that it is not simply a case of downlaoding some software in order to import your contacts, otherwise there would already be software out that could be downloaded from installer.app and would enable the importing of contacts direct on the iphone.

Something like this or equivalent will do the job for a windows pc

My Bad, apparently turbosim for mac will allow you to copy you contacts off your simcard to your computer and then your iphone. So either fork out some cash for turbosim or wait for some other software alternative. A guide to turbosim can be found here: http://www.jasonmadigan.com/2007/08/...h-a-turbo-sim/
