I don't know.. I'm not quite sure I'm buying into this one. Boxes are REALLY easy to fake, and that's the same iPhone image we've seen over and over and over again.
It's already been confirmed that the box is black, but looking at even the much LESS expensive Apple products like the Nano, a whole huge amount of thought went into their design. Everything plastic, clear panels, you can see the physical product... It just seems strange that their iPhone packaging would be so bland. And there's a huge difference between bland design and minimalistic design.
'Course, I could just be a moron and this might actually be the real box ;-) Guess we'll find out Friday!
Well they don't waste a lot of packaging materials. The iPods come in a tiny little package. That one looks a little small to me too. Probably a tree-saving strategy.
Actually, now that I'm using my head, the box makes a lot of sense. I work for a gigantic paintball supply company as the web developer, working alongside all the art guys who design the packaging and such for our products. This month, they've been doing anything they can to design attractive packaging that doesn't use any of the fancy things we're used to with apple -- no molded plastic casing, no laser-etched transparent printing... by going to straight cardboard, the company is saving about $13 per package that goes out the door.
So if Apple wants to sell 10 million of these things, that's 130 MILLION dollars they save just by going with simple packaging. Smart move
on apple it says the box contains a dock, which charges it. ill try to give you a link hold on... here it is it is on left side, towards the bottom http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
I wonder if it's that big because it comes with a basic dock.
Not sure about the Black Box image of the package but maybe they felt it was time to break away from the norm and keep interest high (instead of just packaging like the iPods).
