    Its a step in the right direction. AT&T has finally givin somewhat a break to new and existing customers looking to get out of their contracts.

    enables new and renewing subscribers to have their $175 ETF drop by $5 each month they stick with the carrier and pay their bill.
    Is not the greatest discount but its better than nothing and is a step in the right direction

    and there is also this disclaimer:

    One disclaimer to keep in mind, however, is that this offer is extended only to those who renew or activate contracts as of today; customers who began or upgraded prior to May 25, 2008 will not qualify for this offer.
    So anyone who has AT&T and is already in a contract this does not apply to you, its starts as of today for new customers and than on.

      the least they could do is allow school/corporate discounts for the iphone users. if i had any phone besides this one, i'd get 15% per month. but nooooo... not the iphone!

      Am with you. Thats one of the reasons why I have unlocked & jailbroken AT&T iPhone.

      Thats what sucks. Apple is such a pain, they will remove all discounts you were receiving.

      Existing customers should receive the benefits.

      I couldn't agree with you more. We're the ones that have been with them for almost a year already. Shouldn't we be the ones getting the breaks here?

      Why is everyone so eager to get rid of AT&T? I get pretty good service everywhere I go...

      The only complaint is the issue with text message lag but that only happens once in a blue moon...

      they defiantly shouldn't just give it for new customers. we're the loyal ones that stuck with them. we should get something as well

      you guys seriously thought at&t or apple would do anything that didnt benefit them.

      this is a ploy to get new customers. heck with the ones who are already in a contract. they already got you. but now they have a way of convincing you to stay with them cause if you change your rate plan tomoro, you will all of a sudden be eligible for this. since that will require you to renew your contract as of the change.

      so either way they look good, and make more money.

      duh!

      did any of you really believe for a second that at&t or apple gave a crap?

      this is almost as funny as the devteam hoax.

      How ironic... you are talking about your LOYALTY to AT&T and want an easier and cheaper way to get out of your contract to go somewhere else for service. Nice....

      Do some math people. The equivalent rate plan on T-Mobile is at least $20 per month cheaper than AT&T. If it costs you $175 to get out of your contract and sign up for T-Mobile, you end up breaking even within 9 months. Over the course of a 24 month contract you would spend an extra $480!! with AT&T so no matter how you break it down, it's ALWAYS cheaper to pay AT&T to break your contract and sign up with T-Mobile over any 12 month time span.

      they gave me the runaround for 2 months and one of their reps called me a liar. one rep told me if i suspended it i would only have to pay $10 a month until my contract expires in oct and that would be cheaper.. next thing you know i get a bill for $130 for a phone i couldn't even use. when i complained she called me a liar and said there are no notes in their system stating i would get this discounted service... discounted my ***...

      i wrote a letter to corporate explaining i nor anyone i know would ever use their services again and they waived termination fee and reimbursed me for that months services.

      happy tmobile customer now!

      Wtf? We need this damn discount thingy! We're the ones with $400 phone with no kind of protection plan. iF somethin' happens to my iPhone and for some reason iCan't afford another one, iStill have to front the bill until my contract expires. That's f**k'd up man!!!

      It's not AT&T's fault you chose to buy an APPLE product (which you CAN buy a 2 year warranty for) to use on their service. There are several 3rd party companies that will give you isurance in it. SquareTrade CarePlus: The next best thing to iPhone insurance

      Oh yeah.. AT&T doesn't offer insurance on ANY smart phone so they are not just singling out the iPhone people..

      Have to agree with Poseidon79. You guys went into a 2 year contract with AT&T fully knowing what you were doing. If you needed insurance, I'm sure you could've bought it. And by the way: $400 for a phone is cheap as hell.

      i swear i read somewhere that it's not just only going to be AT&T that has to offer this option of pro-rated cancellation fees. I believe that all phone carriers in US is gonna have to because of a court ruling with the FCC. Might just be that AT&T is first to implement new requirements. If this were actually confirmed. It would benefit AT&T to come out with this option first; attracting customers to their service for that psrticular "option" and the consumer doesn't realize this would be available via all carriers in near future.
