  • Dev Team has been bought out - immediate withdrawl from the iPhone community
    posted on the iphone-dev.org site:

    iPhone DevTeam PRESS RELEASE

The "DevTeam" would like to announce the immediate withdrawal from the iPhone development arena.

It was anticipated that the DevTeam would be releasing a tool for the iPhone sometime this week, unfortunately it has been decided to withdraw all development activities on this tool.

Criticism of the validity of the tool has been reported in the press and certain actions were taken to prevent the release of the tool on the 30th March.

Due to these actions, certain developers ceased their work immediately, with others reconsidering their position.

On Monday the 31st of March the DevTeam was approached by an unnamed party to sell all of thei intellectual property and related applications.

After much consideration the offer was accepted and work has ceased.

The name of the company that has made this offer is private, and the details of the deal are confidential.

Our only comment is that Pwnage Tool and other such applications will not be seen outside of the lab.

We would like to thank our users for their support over the last 10 months.

    ENDS
    Bummer.

    Anybody get tomorrow's date?

the word on the page means "preved" i think..

      EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preved

EDIT 2: Also has something to do with FreeBSD?

"Hello, is this an anime channel? -- Yes. -- How do I patch KDE2 under FreeBSD?"

The phrase was meant to satirize the disproportionate amount of technical "geeky" conversations often occurring on that channel, having nothing to do with anime. Later it was popularized and became widely cited in Russophone chats.

EDIT 3: dont mind me im just throwing stuff out there.

WTF is that number? It looks two digits too long to be a md5sum of the Pwned tool or the 2.0 beta firmware (which is available floating around on torrent sites for those that want to get their hands on it in anticipation of the Pwned release).
      its just ascii code.

Haha! Nice one. When I saw Steve Jobs I was like WTF?!? Why don't any pages on the site work? I tried going directly to the pwnage announcement and it said "404 Not Found".

April Fool's day joke? Could be, but we're hearing it might be real: the long standing bastions of iPhone hacking, the iPhone Dev Team, posted a note to their site stating that "[today] the DevTeam was approached by an unnamed party to sell all of the intellectual property and related applications. After much consideration [What, hours? -Ed.] the offer was accepted and the [Dev Team] has ceased." Seems a bit outlandish. For those not in the know, the Dev Team is the same group that posted jailbreaks to 2.0 (before it was out), 1.1.3, 1.1.1, developed the AnySIM unlock, and are thiiiis close to releasing the Pwnage tool (which promised total unsigned firmware control of the iPhone). So yeah, it may well be a prank, we wouldn't put it past them. Funny thing about the hacker community though, one goes down and 10 more spring up.

      [Thanks Andrew, Erica]

Update: Yep, it's an April Fool's joke. We're just going to go offline until April 2nd, peace.

So see you all tomorrow with the pwnage software(hopefully.)
A few people-including me- have noticed no links to pages within the iphone-dev.com site work nor are there any google pages to any parts of the site.
I'm guessing that with the april fools they are building a new site or something for tomorrow(2nd)
