  • pwnage available tomorrow
We've told you it was coming. Tomorrow is the day. Watch out for the release of pwnage.

    • The software is a self contained application (for MacOS 10.4.x and 10.5.x) that allows all current models of the iPhone device to be “Pwned”. This term (in relation to this software) refers to the patching of the stock bootloader so that it will allow the execution of unsigned code and circumvent code-signing checks. “Pwnage” only needs to be performed once to allow the additional features on the iPhone.
    • The application also processes and modifies existing Apple archives so that unique, custom rolled firmware bundles can be installed onto the “Pwned” iPhone directly from iTunes.
    • These ”.ipsw” files can be created and patched by the application to allow third-party modifications such as activation, application installation, baseband modification, custom phone graphics etc.
    • The tool works automatically on box-fresh (OTB) 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 iPhones and requires minimal interaction from the user.

Dont get your hopes up LMAO, the Dev Team is pretty much a group of the greatest people on the face of the planet..if Apple does anything like that, they will find a way around it, trust me.

that wouldnt help you. To make custom ipsw files work you need to run the pwnage tool once on your iphone

      wow. simply amazing.

i have some serious doubts about getting the 1.2b with this though. surely, as someone had to pay their way into the dev program that firmware has something from apple, a little name or whatever like they do for their itunes+ tracks, and will be able to trace it back. regardless, i'll be doing this the moment it becomes available with or without 1.2b.

question: will this only support restores or is it safe to assume we will be able to do updates and keep what's on our phones already as well? if the custom firmware builder could copy the installed apps and what not and make that a part of the custom fw that would be awesome.

Great news, but I'm sceptical how long it will last for.

Surely a new version of iTunes will be released that checks security on ipsw files before flashing them. This will be seen as a security flaw by Apple, and they will do all they can to patch it.

Haha, they won't distribute 1.2 at all. We have to wait till Apple releases it...

I'll give it a week or 2, before I try on my usable iphone.
And see if there are some issues that arise in the mean time

Why do it, when the phone works (1.1.4)?

I Don't want risk screwing up something. I'll just test using my (second) bricked iphone

      Where can you download 1.2b?

Is it only me who's seen the problem with changing the Apple logo? It means that Apple will immediatly know to deny service to those with "Pwned" iPhones. Seems a bit dumb to me. The moment you turn it on, they know that you've jailbroken it. I don't think it's all that good an idea...

Initially the whole "ghost your iPhone FS" is not going to be a feature

It's your choice if you want to do that or not.
