  • Flash on The iPhone. It's NOT coming. Well at least not from Adobe by themselves.

So Adobe is backpedaling from their previous statement regarding the development of flash on the iPhone by Adobe. It now appears that Adobe will not be able to develop the iPhone flash themselves as they previously claimed. If flash is coming to the iPhone Adobe is going to need the help of Apple.

If you remember a couple days ago Adobe announced that "We have evaluated (the software developer tools) and we think we can develop an iPhone Flash player ourselves."

Turns out they spoke too soon. Adobe has come out with a follow up stating:

“However, to bring the full capabilities of Flash to the iPhone Web-browsing experience, we do need to work with Apple beyond and above what is available through the SDK and the current license around it,” the company said.

“We think Flash availability on the iPhone benefits Apple and Adobe’s millions of joint customers, so we want to work with Apple to bring these capabilities to the device.”

Way to go Adobe. Look before you leap next time. Hopefully Apple works with you to bring flash to the iPhone, even though Steve says your current mobile flash isn't good enough.

Either way the iPhone will have flash I mean Apple is obsessed with getting it sooner or later we will have it.

Well, maybe in the future. It doesn't hurt to wait. After all, waiting maybe for the best for us.

Wow, first off, surprised we are the only 2 still! At least I know their is one sensible person on this forum!

Someone please give examples to WHY you want flash, all I have heard yet is porn

As for youtube on the iPhone, it is all H.264, they re-encode just about everything in H.264 along with Flash video. Now that Flash 9 has H.264 support, I would not be surprised if youtube switched entirely to H.264, as it would improve their video quality, or they could keep it the same an lower the bandwidth to stream all these videos.

Both of these could be handled if Adobe releases a stand-alone flash player like youtube. However, it seems they only want the full flash experience within the safari browser without looking at other alternatives.

apparently some people are content with mediocrity (isheep?). I'm pretty pissed off too. The ONLY reason why I went with a stupid iphone over another PDA type of device was for the future flash implementation.

had I known this, I wouldn't have wasted my money.

God, Apple sucks... never again will I buy another of their self important products. I'd rather have a half working flash player, than nothing at all

at least M$ understands that concept

I have visited many sites who have flash based navigation. (not Porn) I agree that there are ways to build sites that don't need flash and that they can even be better using other technologies but the fact is Steve sold us the iphone with the promise of "the whole internet" well with out flash we are not getting "the whole internet".

I don't care to have flash really. Other than a few flash games I can think of it will only suck battery life and there's nothing we can't do without it. Later if they make a slim iPhone version of flash, great. Why fuss about it though it IS just clunky and extra. I think people just start complaining on here because they think they aren't getting something and they don't even know what the hell they're talking about rofl.
