  • Flash on iPhone. Its coming.

You wanted it. Apple said it wasn't good enough. Adobe said, pshaw, we'll do it ourselves if you don't want to do it with us.

"We believe Flash is synonymous with the Internet experience, and we are committed to bringing Flash to the iPhone," said Adobe Chief Executive Shantanu Narayen. "We have evaluated (the software developer tools) and we think we can develop an iPhone Flash player ourselves."

    WSJ

UPDATE: Engadget's got a bit saying that Adobe is backing out of their claims already - the CEO is now saying he didn't realize they'd need to work "beyond and above what is available through the SDK." Nice job, Shantanu.

Holy crap, Hulu on the iPhone would be AWESOME!

Reading the WSJ article, looks like they're going the same route as the youtube app. "Adobe Working on Media Player for iPhone" and "we can develop an iPhone Flash player ourselves" hint at them working on something more standalone than just a plugin. So looks like it won't be true flash on safari (no silly ads!) while at the same time we should be able to view flash movies / files.

This is only good news if Apple lets Adobe integrate flash into Safari.
A standalone app will have to process HTML as well as flash to be effective.

My take is that once a suitable flash version exists for the iPhone, we can work towards hack integrate it into Safari in form of a plug in.
      Time will tell.

BTW, the SDK hype is really dying down in light of Apple's rules and regulations about developing on it. (can't run in background, can't integrate on call on, etc.)
      Killing the buzz here Apple!

Time to look towards Mobile Ubuntu on the iPhone, it seems.

I never had NES, only genesis. Then I got an N64 in 96 and that was the last console I bought.

If apple wont let us.... They didnt let us do alot but we do it anyway i.e. Installer, 3rd party native apps, UNLOCKING. This will be good news once adobe gets it together and the people of these forums get a chance to hack it. Can't come too soon!

      I can't wait for this!

Its funny to me how apple is trying to keep everything so proprietary..or atleast stay in control of what we do and put on our iphones, but at this point everyone from 13 year olds to adobe are saying eff you and making whatever software they want for it.

They really should just give up already.

sweeet. I just hope it has a toggle switch in settings like javascript.I can not stand those annoying dancing or strobe light ads on sites. Or that it works like quicktime and launches a stand alone player

Happy, I think it will run within safari.. Safari mobile does allow Plugins, most of the sites that have flash would be meaningless if you just viewed the flash aspect of the site. If its just a flash player, then I for one dont want it lol.

      :-)

      -k

couldnt have said better..there are applets we want to see them not just youtube sort of video player, anyway my oppinion is it wont come before at least 4 months if ever, howhever,I have eyed SE xperia x1 and will get it if my iphone doesnt get a flash or java support soon.
