matt4iphones's I own a Mac and 2 PC's and this kind of comment of yours belongs to the past. Your Mac certainly has an intel processor running inside, remember... and maybe the majority of people will own Macs the day people like you learn what Apple learned some time ago!

i Agree...Independence is really handy and pretty cool tool. But it isn't quite complete for unlocking 1.1.4. Let me rephrase that. Its not quite the easiest way to unlock your 1.1.4.

      Quickie instructions:

If you are on 1.1.3 or lower and have 3.9BL or baseband, you're set. No worries, carry on with the upgrade. If you're on any other firmware and you want to upgrade to 1.1.4, go ahead! Do it! It's totally fine after you back up all of your data.

For those who want a really nice clean 1.1.4... do a full Restore with Firmware 1.1.4. Thats right! Go ahead with the restore. It will be unlocked with ZiPhone 2.5 (google

      1. Restore to 1.1.4 firmware (wait 15min)
      2. Download ZiPhone 2.5
      3. Once 1.1.4 is complete and your iPhone is locked and ready to go..
      4. Run ZiPhone and follow the intuitive instructions. (Click on "Do it All" easiest)
      5. Whala! Unlocked, activated and ready for Installing apps. "Thank You Zibri!"
      6. Remember to donate!!! They did a great job making it that easy for you!

ok i will try it out, and if it works like a sharm ( no doubt possible ) i will certainly donate something.

      I confirm the following scenario:

Original 1.0 iPhone, BL 3.9, running 1.1.2, unlocked on T-Mobile with 1.2.1u back in november.

Used this method !!! Worked like a charm. Thank you iPhoneWriter for posting it. I hope my scenario helps others as well.

Everything is fully functional per list below!

FYI, since I backed up (see step #1), after I opened iTunes, I chose to restore from back up and I got all my SMS, Email, Call lists, etc. back as I had before the upgrade!

      Scenario Particulars:
      • Apple MacBook, latest version of operating system/updates (Leopard 10.5.2)
      • Latest version of iTunes
      • Day One iPhone w/3.9BL, v1.1.3 with the latest Baseband and Unlock'd to run on T-Mobile (T-Mobile SIM installed the entire time.)

      Steps Followed:
      1. Used iTunes to Synch/Backup the iPhone, before beginning
      2. Once synched and backed up:
      3. Restored to v1.1.4 using iTunes
      4. Once restored to v1.1.4, closed iTunes
    2. Downloaded "ZiPhone-1.1.4_by_JBLP.zip" (a modified version of ZiPhone) from this link right here.
    3. Unzipped downloaded file, and executed "./ziphone -a -j" to Activate, Jailbreak and install the Installer application. NOTE: This process took about one (1) minute to complete.
    4. Set "Auto Lock" to never in Settings.
    5. Configured / Established Wi-Fi access.
    6. Installed requisite software packages:
    7. Launched Installer application and refreshed "Sources" to ensure most recent applications.
    8. Once "Sources" successfully refreshed, applied any/all available "Updates" and exited Installer application, to ensure updates applied.
    9. Re-Launched Installer application and confirmed no additional updates were available.
    10. Installed BSD Subsystem and exited Installer application, to ensure updates applied.
    11. Re-Launched Installer application and confirmed BSD Subsystem is installed and that no additional updates were available.
    12. Added http://installer.iClarified.com to "Sources" and relaunched the Installer application, to installation/updates applied.
    13. Re-Launched Installer application and refreshed "Sources" to confirm that the iClarified source is installed and that no additional updates were available.
  • Unlocked the iPhone, for use on networks other than the Death Star.
  • Launched Installer application and the 'iClarified" folder from the Install tab/page
  • Installed "Unlock (1.1.4) application. NOTE: During this process, I received a popup asking me which Wi-Fi network to join. I simply selected my Wi-Fi network (the one previously setup in step #6 above) and the process completed without issue. This process took about five (5) minutes to complete.
  • Exited Installed application and rebooted phone.

Scenario Results:

iPhone Particulars:
  • Network = T-Mobile (USA)
  • Version = 1.1.4 (4A102)
  • Modem Firmware = 04.04.05_G
  • IMEI = correct
  • iTunes = recognizes phone w/correct version. Synchs without issue.
  • 190.5 MB of "Other" prior to any synching/restoration of data
  • Telephone = fully functional, unlocked and running T-Mobile
  • SMS = fully functional
  • YouTube = full functional
  • Maps / Locate Me = fully functional
  • Internet / Safari = fully functional
  • Weather = fully functional
  • Stocks = fully functional
  • Ringtones = fully functional
  • E-Mail = fully functional

  • There is a little redundancy built-in, if you read/follow each step as outlined, but I consider this to be a good thing as it errors on the side of caution.

As always, I hope this helps more than it hurts!

I'm a major noob to the whole iPhone game.

I managed to jailbreak my iPhone from OTB 1.1.2 and unlock in order to use with Tmobile. I was afraid to upgrade to a 1.1.3...just didn't want anything to go wrong since it was unlocked and I could actually call people. I was encouraged by this program, iNdependence, to give it a shot on my mac. Although, I had to repeat some of the steps more than once and in one instance had to start all over from 'restore', in the end...and about 30 minutes of patience got me a jailbroken, unlocked and fully working 1.1.4 iPhone.

I couldn't figure out how to get the install apps. on the software called Fugu, but I'll try to figure that out later. iNdependence kicksa$$, that's for sure. Thanks to this site for sharing all the info!!!

I'm having a problem with installer. I used Ziphone 2.5 on my Macbook to jailbreak/unlock and install installer.

The problem is with installer when I open it I do'nt see that Installer.app home screen. All I see is a blank. Then when I went to my sources, I saw that I had my previous sources there. I tried refreshing the sources, and downloading BSD Subsystem or anything else and it gives me a "Error: Package download failed!"

Could someone help me in resolving this installer issue? I can't SSH either, bc it's not installer bc I need to install it through installer =/.

**Solved the issue. I reran Ziphone and made sure when I plugged in the iPhone after the jailbrake/unlock and opened iTunes to set it up as a new phone and not restore back ups. Then I also made sure to reset my phone by going to settings, general, and reset all settings.

Then all the programs in installer were timing out for some reason when I tried to install it. I called it a night and when I woke up and tried again, everything worked perfectly. I could now see the home installer screen. I think the installer.app was just down last night when I was trying it. I should've been more patient and went to bed earlier and just tried the next day.
