  • 1.1.3 Jailbreak Goes Public!
Per NateTrue's blog, the 1.1.3 jailbreak is official! UPDATE: The jailbreak is now for Windows and OS X both. Here's the OS X jailbreak download. (non-member mirror)

You must have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken iPhone already for this to work (or jailbreak yours).

Here's the brief details, before we get our full guide up:

    - Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
    - Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
    - Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (non-member mirror) (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
    - iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
    - iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
    - iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
    - When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" package. Do that.
    - When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.
Note: There is a bit of controversy surrounding this release. It seems NateTrue and the iPhone Dev Team have parted ways over this release - they believe the legality is questionable, NateTrue believes it is within rights. MMi remains neutral until more info is released. At the moment, it seems there's a rumble in the Bronx, so to speak.

    Update: from NateTrue:
And zdziarski thinks there's more in the patches than there really is. It's just identifying pieces, so that the patcher software knows where to cut and paste and modify. And some kernel caches. Nothing big.

It doesn't work for me. The bin file that it creates to upload to the phone is 0 bytes. It will go through the process and reboot, but it does nothing. Anyone have any ideas? I have used both my local copy of the 113 firmware and let the program download it. It did not work either way. I am lost as to why it's not working.

January 24, 2008: Dev Team Member Gone Rogue, Unauthorized Release

NateTrue has recently leaked a v1.1.3 Jailbreak without the Dev-Team's permission, getting himself kicked off the team. Against our wishes, he's included both files belonging to Apple and patches which contain copyrighted information by Apple, making his personal release illegal and unethical. This is directly contrary to the spirit of true hacking and sharing of knowledge. I'd like to strongly advise against using his system for upgrading, and make it known that the rest of the dev team does not support software piracy or copyright infringement. The method the Dev Team was/is planning on releasing allows you to perform the jailbreak without violating federal law.

Ok I have read from pages 1-5 and I am sorry if I missunderstood something that has already been answered but here goes anyway, I have an unlocked/jailbroken 1.1.2 iphone so now I am debating to put 1.1.3 BUT I am confused on because I am from canada will my simcard still be unlocked or do I have to wait till theres a new unlock? Also last question, I just wanted to know will I have everything cause from what I understand if you stay at the current baseband you dont get the new feature on google maps if you fully upgrade you do get it .... so why would you not update the baseband in this case what is the reason to preventing you from doing this?

      I don't get it.

If NO third party apps work with 1.13 why is everyone is such a hurry to upgrade?

I'm wondering the same thing. Hell, I'm still on 1.0.2 but have everything just the way I want it.

If you had read the thread you would have seen I already answered every single question you asked, iChopPryde.

      Sigh...

1- Jailbreaking using this method will NOT break unlocked phones. I repeat, unlocked phones will work.

2- If you're unlocked, google maps locate me feature won't work since it uses the latest baseband.

3- The current baseband is unlockable. So if your phone is unlocked, your options are:
      A - jailbreak but google's locate me won't work
B - upgrade baseband and brick your phone.
