  • 1.1.3 Jailbreak Goes Public!
Per NateTrue's blog, the 1.1.3 jailbreak is official! UPDATE: The jailbreak is now for Windows and OS X both. Here's the OS X jailbreak download. (non-member mirror)

You must have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken iPhone already for this to work (or jailbreak yours).

Here's the brief details, before we get our full guide up:

    - Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
    - Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
    - Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (non-member mirror) (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
    - iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
    - iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
    - iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
    - When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" package. Do that.
    - When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.
Note: There is a bit of controversy surrounding this release. It seems NateTrue and the iPhone Dev Team have parted ways over this release - they believe the legality is questionable, NateTrue believes it is within rights. MMi remains neutral until more info is released. At the moment, it seems there's a rumble in the Bronx, so to speak.

    Update: from NateTrue:
And zdziarski thinks there's more in the patches than there really is. It's just identifying pieces, so that the patcher software knows where to cut and paste and modify. And some kernel caches. Nothing big.

I did the recovery mode trick, and I'm manually restored to 1.1.1 now. I'll give this one more try.

To the guy who said I should'nt have restarted.... I waited 30 minutes stuck at the apple logo before i tried to restart. How long are we supposed to wait?

I still have the black screen and silver apple. After about 10 minutes it seems to reboot and just goes back to the black screen and silver apple. Any ideas?

I'm using OTB 1.1.2 with pss sim. If I upgrade to 1.1.3, and it won't work with pss sim, AM I ABLE TO DOWNGRADE it back to 1.1.2? OR, Can upgraded 1.1.3 works with pss sim?
      Thank you.

I successfully updated to 1.1.3/Jailbreak my brothers 1.1.2 Jailbroken iphone (before i do it to my phone) in one try. Very simple instructions, its takes awhile but I was patient. It told me to open up installer and install the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" so i did, the status bar stopped in the middle and waited a couple of mins, thought it was frozen but then a endless spinning loading icon appears. So then I press the home button for some reason just felt like it but it rebooted, turned back on and wallah! i got 1.1.3.

YAY! The only App I tried was Camera Pro (only one the seemed to work for me). Now just gotta wait for all the other developers to update there apps.

I think alot of people are getting confused about the legality issues so I'll clear it up if I can. Some people seem to think this whole jailbreak process is illegal, which is not really true. The jailbreak gives you copyrighted apple material which is piracy, but I think alot of people are getting scared from all of the posts saying it's a federal offense. How many of you download free music? Same thing. Also, before this was leaked by Nate, several members of the dev team had said that several members of the team had differing opinions regarding the release. I agree with nate's decision to release the jailbreak, because in the end apple will fix whatever exploit was used, and the dev team will find another hole. It's happened every firmware release, it's not like this is the last fw to come out.

      T-Mobile Service w/Total Internet

Update worked. 3rd Party Apps are gone but may be reinstalled (apparently).
So far all features seem to work. Edge settings are reset to BLANK.

Problem tho: As previously stated - As soon as you try to reenter EDGE Settings and you finish the first line, it returns to the home screen. I have previusly seen an approach to change it in the phone itself (the file). Have no clue how to edit the file tho.

As quoted by rishy in another Thread:

"you can chnage the setting in this file
      /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist

      modify this section

      apn
      internet2.voicestream.com
      password

      username

      Digg"

Im having the same problem...can you please let me know if you find a way to get around this?

for the most part every game works physics, blackjack, solitare, etc; I havnt checked apps yet. I upgraded from 1.1.2.

Unfortunately you'll need to uninstall ALL apps besides subsystem, installer(duh), and the nescessary. But everything needs to be reinstalled. (its a pain in the buttox) lol

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 1.1.1 iPhone that was jailbroken via the jailbreakme.com method, and iBrickr is telling me that my phone isn't jailbroken.

      Mild success here....

-All apps gone, had to reinstall.
-Some apps cannot be uninstalled (says it failed to execute the script....) including Dock, SummerBoard, and OpenSSH *BIG PROBLEM*
-The locate me circle doesn't seem to work for me, using at&t as service provider, never unlocked.

I think Nate really messed up. ): The way they were planning, so that SDK + 1.1.3 Jailbreak at same time for super 3rd party goodness, seemed great. I just hope Apple doesn't release a 1.1.4 with the SDK now.

Did you Downgrade from 1.1.3, then upgrade from 1.1.2 or 1.1.1?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong:

I have a 1.1.1 OTB that is currently updated to 1.1.2 and jailbroken and LOCKED to ATT

To get everything working, I need to:

-Do a restore (will uninstall all of my apps)
-Upgrade to 1.1.3 using ITunes (to upgrade baseband)
-Downgrade to 1.1.1 using TUAW method
-Upgrade to 1.1.3 using iBrickr method

This will get everything working (including EDGE, Google Pinpoint, ATT phone, most 3rd party apps), right? Has anybody out there done this yet? Anybody see any flaws in my plan?
