  • Streaming Media to iPhone and iPod Touch with Orb/Simplify Media
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Fi23xSxFcE"]YouTube - Winamp Remote on iPhone[/ame]

Don't you hate how your iPhone and iPod Touch can't store your entire library? Good news, it appears Orb (a winamp media slinger) will soon be compatible with the iPhone.

With this nifty software you'll be able to access all of your movies and music stored on your home PC wherever you are. Best of all, it should be free

Oh and because I know all of you will ask -- No its not released yet, just coming soon.

    [thanks ericidel | via theregister]

    Edit

For OS X users this has been around for awhile, but might as well mention it here in this thread. Use SimplifyMedia

i don't know what to send you. i just went to the site and DL the thing and then set up a static IP address and set it up with my router. look under the FAQ on the site and you can link to what you need to get you started.
i just need to figure out how to get the music to play.

oh and i forgot to mention that the Quicktime logo comes up for just a quick second when i select a song but then it's replaced with a "play" arrow with a line through it.
and all of my music is in AAC format from itunes

simplify media works on windows vista

orb doesn't autoconvert media for the iphone

and running your own apache server works much better. You dont have to see only 10-20 items per page. It shows everything in that directory on one page. Also, it gets rid of any middle men. It streams from your pc to your iphone. Not from your pc, to orb, to your iphone. (Try streaming a movie or tv show while your phone and pc are on the same wifi while maxing out your internet connection with torrenting or something, using orb takes forever to stream the file with constant pausing, apache does not). And access to your directories is quicker when you run your own apache server. So, no lag based on transferring to the orb server and then to your phone. Additionally, the interface is much more responsive.

Then you won't be able to play your movies anywhere else natively.

I keep all my music as MP3, itunes plays MP3 just find so why convert your music to AAC?

This isn't new, been doing this for a while now, but the response time from Orb to iPhone is horrible. I may go the apache route instead.

OK you need to allow the tversity's port on your firewall; you can specify it(i selected this one) or just allow it!

I think i know why apple is stalling with the updates...

They now know that the new bootloader is un-Unlockable, and hackers cannot penetrate it to unlock it.

So, apple may be stalling so that 1.1.2 OTBers have no choice but to stick with AT&T. Especially over the holiday season, where a lot of people will be recieveing Iphones.

Maybe they're finding a way to further crunch the unlock method?

All's i know, is that, I WANT 1.1.3! dammit, lets see some decent upgrades already!

      Thats my 2 cents.
