    iPhone Dev member Sam had a chat with Gizmodo, and mentioned that all the dev members are OK with open sourcing anySIM, and they will be assessing public demand, and most likely going open source very soon.

    Good news for further iPhone unlocking development.

      I don't know if this is neccessarily a good thing, others might release "new" anysim apps and they could cause more bricks... On the other hand, people can see how anysim works and possibly collaborate to make it better. I guess its good and bad.

      i just hope they are not doing so because they have run out of ideas and now are welcoming others to try... it kills me to see my iphone 1.1.2 otb just sitting in my top drawers... while i live with a motoslvr.... please GOD let there be an unlock for 1.1.2

      This is a brilliant move because it allows people from other countries to assist with solutions for all iPhone variants.

      Without this, only the creators can make adjustments. This way, Joe Blogs, from France can work out a fix for French iPhones, and tell the creators, who will incorporate it into the next update!

      How is this a good idea when apple sees everything we do and if we give them the code to exactly what we're doing is just more problems then a solution is my personal opinion. Any thoughts?

      so im assuming open source means like the program and devolpment tools or code or w/e is available to everyone? Not just the dev team?

      does making it open source show more clearly to Apple how the hackers do it, and therefore how to stop them??

      Yes, but...

      It doesn't matter anyway. When apple updates the phone it comes with a new modem firmware (baseband) which is locked.

      Not even Iphone Sim Free leaves your phone unlocked through updates because the baseband is completely changed.

      Even if its opensource or not opensource, apple will always relock the phone through updates.

      But hackers will always find a way to unlock it. So it doesn't matter.

      No we just gotta look out for fake anysims that might be malicious.

      This has its UPS and DOWNS.

      Its not a god idea Apple is gonna write stronger Security patches so it will be harder to Unlock for Iphone 1.1.3

      Guarantee ya, if a group of hackers can get together and unlock the iPhone, the folks who BUILT the iPhone know how its happening.

      I'm with you on that. Apple knows that the dev team and others are unlocking it. And I think that it is safe to say that they know the methods. I just can't wait for the 5 year deal for exclusivity for AT&T is up. Then it will be an option. Quite frankly, I doubt that apple cares whether their device is locked or not, the issue is the deal w/ AT&T.
