I agree. Considering the iphone has everything needed to support it (as if there are actually cell phones out now that dont) its merely a software issue (issue being its not there). For Apple to introduce "the worlds most technologically advanced media phone ever produced" without support for several years old technology - well.....I just dont get it.
And I am one of those that would use this alot. Right now I am missing this alot.

This pretty much sums it up for me. If it can be done, it should be done period.
the only thing i care about is A2DP
Soz can't quote on iphone but that's true what you said and many people don't want to jailbreak their iPhone for MMS, my iPhone used to be jailbroken but not anymore since 2.0.2, until installer has all the apps from cydia, I'm staying away or until Cydia gets a major update.
as for the question on wiether the iPhone 2.1 firmware will make the iPhone NIKE+ compatible... I dont think so... from what I read, the new iPod Touch has the Nike+ tuner/antenna built in... where the iPhone doesnt... although theoretically we could connect the tuner to the data port just like the nano has to... but it wasnt mentioned.. Hope im wrong though, would love this to work

I talk to females (not generalizing) and they LOVE to text, send pictures in text, etc. I'd like to do it back in the same simple manner.
Simple, fast, no hassle... unlike emailing.
That's why I need MMS, for those that don't want to or simply CAN'T hassle with email/data plans/accounts/etc.
Thank you Swirly for filling in that gap.
F U Apple for not providing simple phone functionality. F Me for buying this phone. Thanks to the devs out there that make it actually worth the money I paid for it, without them, this thing would be useless.
Like how you stated this... ROTFLMAO!
MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION FOR ME:
Has the "Apple Logo Screen of Death" issue been solved? I mean: Has the f***ing mobilewatchdog process been modified correctly or better: removed completely?
Cause if I am about to have crashing apps and a freezing iPod AGAIN, I will sure as hell avoid ANY update!!!
Thx to the SSH solution I NOW have a pwned and WORKING iPod on 2.0.2 - and a LOT of reasons to wait with any updates :-)
Unless they have figured out a solution for ALOD and unless they have added something USEFUL like Copy+Paste I will definitely wait.
Number one reason for me to upgrade aswell is to fix "The Apple logo screen of death". Sooooo annoying to wait over 5 hours to restore from backup, I had to restore 23 times this week because of that issue. Took a he'll of a lot of time. How do I tell apple of problems they're unaware of?
the 2.1 is out. you can download it from the new itune 8 but we are waiting the guys to jailbreak it;p
Are you sure? I have checked just now and failed to find any 2.1 updates.
He probably means for iPod touch. Iphone's not till Friday, isn't it?
It's not out for the iPhone yet.. just checked.
yes for ipod touch! sorry
Although MMS would be nice because not everyone has internet access 24/7. I just want fully functioning bluetooth, how do you except us to steal music if we can't send it to our friends through bluetooth, god dammit Apple get you asses into gear. 2.1 atm seems to hold no benefits over 2.0.2. Plus it means all the devs will spend ages porting everything to 2.1. I'm sick of not having 1.1.4 apps, that firmware was the best.
It's like everytime a new firmware update is announced the same comments come up after the post.
According to several stats Apple seems to have sold about 5 400 000 iPhones from Q3 2007 to Q2 2008.
The Price of the Iphone 3G has been recorded as high as 2,396 as a finalized sale online.
It's truly hard to compare some stats to other phones such as the Nokia N95 because they don't get as much publicity.
The argument seems to be the iphone lacks "essential" features such as MMS, A2DP, Copy & Paste. Many other smartphones do contain these features. However, when you bought the Iphone, did it contain these features? No. Maybe it will maybe it won't.
You have to think about your arguments. On one side: Seriously Apple? SERIOUSLY. We don't have copy and paste? On a data intensive phone? Aimed at an audience that intends to fully use the available features of the Iphone which practically scream for Copy & Paste!? However, that's on the back burner? Alright. I just got a new engine in my car, but the rear axel is on the back burner. The tires too, they're coming, I need a new radio first.
MMS -- This is a mixed bag. MMS is not a dying technology. It doesn't matter what you say. Does your little sister email photos? Does your mom, dad, grandmother? Probably not. The majority of phone users would use MMS over Email. Ease of use. Data Plans, etc. However, at the same time is MMS all that important? Does it have any practical uses? The only urgent use would be a business implementation, and of-course, you'd use email for business. So it's a miss and a hit. I've wanted to use MMS but I have lived without it. I've found a way around. I agree at this point it's not worth the trouble to put into the Iphone (and no, it will never be), but it's not a dying technology. And it's certainly not comparable to the life-span or operational use of Standard Floppy Drives.
A2DP -- Another mixed bag. This I agree apple missed on. A2DP would seem practical, not because the iphone is a smart phone but because of the fact that it's pushed as a media device aswell. The music features are great, with the 3G apple claimed exceptionally increased audio quality, etc. It's clear they are playing on the media functionality and A2DP really would help. I would love it. But it didn't stop me from buying or using my iphone happily. You can purchase an adapter online which allows you to use it. Sure it's a little bulky. But it suffices. I would never use it, but hey, it's an option. Will apple ever issue this via software? Who knows. It's technically possible. It's software stack. But accordingly, "Copy & Paste" was on the back-burner for more important features, so expecting A2DP would be dumb. If it comes, great. I tried to grab stats from the site that sells the adapter, but failed to. So I'll refrain from dropping numbers. But I'd assume they sell alot based on web chatter.
Conclusion: The Iphone is an amazing device. Maybe it lacks common sense items. In comparison, it lacks alot of things. However, what it does, it does it better. It obviously has a huge fan base, and alot of end-users from teenagers to businesses. You can bicker all you want, and everyone has their own opinion. However in the end, no matter what side your fighting here, your taking the time to comment on the Iphone, so it's doing something right if it deserves your time (even to trash it). Have you used an Iphone?
I hate not having copy and paste. I hate no A2DP, but I love my Iphone. My Multi-touch. My apps. My jail-broken apps. The power it contains. The ease of use, or advance functionality. The smooth flow of the software (sometimes, haha). How when I want to do what a phone should do, I can. It performs many functions very well. The point is, Apple jumped into the phone market, the made a splash, which grew to a ripple, a wave and now its heading for the Louisiana with force.
Once again, if they Iphone is so bad, why do you have one, why did you buy one? It's not cheap. It's not something you buy with the hope of an upgrade. You buy it because it does something great, you like it and you want it. If you bought it or use it for any other reason and complain, you don't deserve the Iphone nor to complain. Either like it, or shut up and sell it. It's not an in-between market. This isn't Windows CE. Your free to sell your criticism on AirMarket but the Iphone doesn't have room for it. How many useful contributions have the Windows CE users come up with? Let's ask WINdevTeam -- Oh wait, yeah. Seriously.
So once again, if your complaining, whining, crying...
The lights flash. The sirens sound.
Do you know what that is coming from down the road and around the corner POOR DIS-SATISFIED IPHONE USER?
Here to save the day from pointless whining,
And excessive complaining...
It's a WHAM-BULANCE.
Do you own an Iphone?

Sometimes its amusing when people take your statements out of context, but mostly its annoying. I made no comparison whatsoever. I pointed out that as new technologies are formed, older ones are dropped. And for those who rightly pointed out email has been available alot longer than MMS. True, but not on a phone. And not to the degree its stage of development is at this point. You can sent a text message, a picture, a video, a song... or you can do it all at once with an email.

But it matters what you say? Actually guy, it doesn't matter what either of our opinions are. Apple made the decision to ignore MMS for more fruitful methods of transferring data. You can complain about it all you want, it won't change their views.
Oh and I like the line about Grandma. I would be very surprised if your grandma's VCR isn't still flashing 12:00, and you're talking about MMS?
any way you guys can make it a variable-menu button in the new "pwnage" when it comes out?
Ok, let's keep the MMS arguments to PM's please. This is why threads get so big so fast. Keep on topic, and base all of your replies on the new firmware release. We DON"T know what it consists of yet for the iPhone, so why have this huge debate until then? And yes, the Touch's 2.1 firmware has been released. Please continue to debates about how needed MMS in PM's please.
Has push for the AIM app? It really sucks without it. I looked Apollo in Cydia and could not find it. Anyone got a link?
Please please please let one of the surprise features be to use the iPhone in landscape or SMS in landscape and to forward SMS's at least. So embarrasing when your friend goes forward me that message or send that song. But OTOH I have an iPhone
