It seems to have been confirmed that there is something wrong with the iPhone 3g's chip/software causing bad service. According to sources at Business Week all of the iPhone reception problems are caused by the iPhone's Infineon chip as Nomura Securities analyst Richard Windsor already suggested.
The good news? Apple believes that the problem can be fixed with a simple software update. Apple and Infineon (the chip maker) are working together testing software tweaks and updates to fix reception problems. When should we expect our reception woes to be sorted? As early as the end of the month.
absolutely there is an issue, im a switch engineer and we are having some problems about the network which are most iphone users on the area.. i also confirm this to my wife, she is a RF Engineer and they are responsible for the parameters etc.. they also seeing big drop of signals and not that, iphone 3G has this like memory eater on the cellsite. i hope apple can fixed this hardware issue..
My 3G service is horrible and spotty. I get zero or 1 bar of 3G service when I'm more than 10 miles outside the "downtown" area. Switch to Edge and FULL signal.
Yeah I expected more from the iPhone 3G service, ill have full bars in 2g, but switching to 3G im at either 1 bar or No Service, Ive used my 3G once since ive had the phone, so i am looking forward to Apple and the chipset maker to fix the problem, Though even if they don't I didnt have the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G only being 200 bucks was pretty much good enough for me. I guess you get what you pay for like they say.
I think att has been having issues.. Even my cousin has been having problems with his Nokia, and my gf's first gen has been spotty running 1.1.4 1st gen. I think its more att, although my 3g 2.0.1 has been running fine..
I never had any 3G problems yet, I even used it when I was camping surrounded by just mountains and forest. Even there I still had about 1 bar of 3G for like the first few hours. I still found that amazing, because as a group we had about 4 phones on us: 1 of them being first gen iphone, and the other 2 blackberry. When compared I had 1 bar of 3G service while the 2 blackberry had no service, and the first gen iPhone had 1 bar of 2G service. I think that is pretty dam good lol. But thats just me, never experienced any problems yet for it and hopefully i don't. Also hope it is just a software thing that apple can fix with a few updates
T4R06, you mean they are hogging the bandwidth with errors or retrys?? Not too familiar with wireless tech but I know networking... U know any details?
