I just started a restore on my 3G and iTunes asked me to update my phone to 2.0.1!

    More info to come!

Update: Also available for iPod touch owners.
Update 2: So far, after upgrading, my iPhone 3G seems to be overall quicker. Apps load faster and keyboard lag is just about non-existant.-ajl917

    Edit Poseidon:
If your phone is pwned and you hit upgrade in iTunes you will get error 6 and you will have to re-pwn your phone with the custom 2.0.0 software.

The current versions of Pwnage and WinPwn will not work with 2.0.1 right now!! Stay posted for updates to these programs!!-ajl917

FYI, heard from my friend that works in apple corp. They are reviewing everything on 2.1 now and hopefully will be released at the end of next week.

We’ve been reading some comments in our previous post “Updates!” and certain people have been a little bit excited and hastily updated using yesterday’s iTunes update without getting the information first ;-)

We don’t see any major problems with the release that Apple made, but we have not released an update for PwnageTool for it as yet and therefore PwnageTool 2.0.1 will not work!

If you absolutely can’t wait then original (2G) iPhone owners can update using iTunes if they really need to, but you’ll lose third-party applications that rely on the Jailbreak, although it is reported that the 2G device remains activated, we have not clarified this.

3G owners can in theory update, but you’ll lose the jailbreak, and you should only carry out this update if you always plan to use the 3G phone with the original carrier, but be warned that there is a baseband update that occurs during this update that could impact the ability to unlock the device (if and when an unlock becomes available), we have not fully tested this baseband update as yet, but we think it is better to be safe than sorry.

Remember, from a jailbreaking point of view the update process is always reversible, but this isn’t the case for the 3G baseband, so your intended long term future use for the phone should help you decide what you do. If you always going to use the 3G phone with the original carrier then baseband updates are fine, if you are not then hold off.

As soon as testing is finished a PwnageTool update will be released that will allow you to safely update either device with all current PwnageTool features still in place and you’ll have the option to disable the baseband update.

The current version of PwnageTool is 2.0.1 it doesn’t support the latest ipsw versions.

      Layman’s terms clarification:-

If your 3G iPhone is on a regular contract and you always plan to be with the carrier then you can update but you will lose the jailbreak and access to third party (non AppStore) applications.
If your 3G iPhone is not on a regular contract and you plan to use it on an alternative network to the carrier that supplied it then do not update unless you do it with the impending PwnageTool update.
We will release an update to PwnageTool when the testing has been completed and all applied changes have been checked for safety.

Only if you don't want to jailbreak I for one is totally satisfied with the AppStore, only App I miss is the keyboard app which allows you to turn off auto fill :P

HA!!! What a lie!!! It's highly unlikely Apple will so soon after 2.0

Btw, I was unlocked on 2.0 with a custom firmware made by somebody on a mac. iTunes has never been pwned neither has the iPhone, but I just clicked restore in iTunes and updated to 2.0.1.
iTunes asked me to activate the iPhone and I clicked next. I've had my iPhone since december and it has always been unlocked or jailbroken. This was the first time activating officially.
I went ahead and all I had to do was accept some agreements and my iPhone now accepts any O2-UK sim.

New feature for the iPod touch: You may now take screenshots by pressing both the home button and the standby button together (but not long until the iPod resets, only short and it will flash the screen and take a snapshot)

Can anyone confirm if a 2G iPhone remains unlocked and activated after upgrading to 2.0.1? I know you lose jailbreak.

Confirmed. I have a 2G activated/unlocked on Rogers. I updated to 2.0.1 and it remained activated/unlocked. (Jailbreak is gone though).

Can someone post a download link to the new firmware. (Don't have access to iTunes right now, and I just need the direct download link that normally is always in these threads)

If you dont mind losing jailbreak and Cydia + Apps, feel free to update to 2.0.1
