  • 2.0 3g iPhone Jailbreak Video
The dev team has released their video of the newest jailbreak. Also they have specified what "released soon" means. Soon as in a few days but NOT over the weekend. We'll just have to sit back, relax, and be patient for a few days. It IS good to know that it is coming though.

I want to see a video of the iPhone.
Also that program doesn't make much sense.
Also did the person even jailbreak 2.0 it looked like he just jailbroke 1.1.4 and then it said failed.

      I don't trust these guys.
I only trust iBrickr, iDemorcracy, and ZiPhone.

      I will tell you.
The iPhone 2.0 will be hacked.
      Trust Me.

What I don't get is why doesn't someone like Erica Sadun who has some apps on the appstore freaking hid some exploitable code or somting in her app so we can hack it easy.
Seriously someone make some fake pong app with hidden backend exploitable code so we can hack this thing already.

R U serious? WTH people?!? calm down its just a damn update..Free mind you...along with the jailbreak aps... No need to get all emotional... If its that urgent then if I may suggest one of the below options...
      1. Go spend the money for another phone
      2. Get some computer code skills and do it yourself
      3. Pay someone to J-break it for you.
      4. If you dislike a dev so much then WAIT for your fav dev to come up with their prgrm

Its pretty sad for us to B8tch at or down someone or group that is working hard to provide a free service. Sad ... just sad

For all the devs out there that has made it possible to unlock the Iphone for us to play a little backgammon or race through the iPhone street, play a little THtouch... save us $$$$$ from AT&T... Thank you keep up the good work. Much appreciated.

ok i just had some one call me askin if i could unlock the 3G yet,
i told him the unlock would be available soon.
he said he was in line earlier today to buy his 3G and a guy was there buyin a second one.
      no big deal right?
get this, his first one was in his hand, all white 16gb,
      UNLOCKED TO TMOBILE!!!!!!!

      HOW HOW HOW HOW HOW.
I am skeptical, but its not impossible that ziphone or pwnage will work on the 3G right now.
wether it is safe or not is left to be said.

but this guy used his phone to call 611 and confirmed it was unlocked to tmobile.

no confirmation on if installer worked or any apps, or if he could even get edge to work.

i will start scouring the web and all my at&t friends for info.

not tired at all, but your explanation right there is exactly what you should have written in the first place.

this place is supposed to be a community helping eachother. if you dont want to answer, maybe say nothing at all. would be much better than bashing people which is basically what this whole, wasteful thread is.

i agree with your point fully though.

This was posted on the dev team blog about 15 minutes ago

      Rush, rush, rush....
Over the last year we’ve discovered some interesting things about the software used in the iPhone. These “hacks” , “exploits” *and “techniques”, or whatever you want to call them, are valuable*- not only from a financial perspective (so scummy people can sell unlocking software) but also from a strategic point of view. Think of it like a game of poker, showing your hand too early would certainly make you lose “the game”.*
The majority of iPhone users are not technical - they want an easy, one-stop, simple application that will allow them to quickly and painlessly unlock their phone. If we were to release a crummy command-line based tool that does the immediate job that everyone is screaming for, we’d only end up in the following situation:
      1) The technique is released to the world and people use this technique to quickly create GUI apps that they charge*cash-money for, or re-release something hacky and horrible that bricks lots of devices, or for example disables the WiFi that then causes more stress that ultimately comes back to us
      2) The technique is exposed to the vendor, allowing them to locate and repair the security hole. Sometimes these security holes span product versions, for example: between the first generation and second generation iPhone. In such a case releasing the knowledge in the middle of the product development cycle is pointless and risks the “usefulness” of the technique - especially if there are existing hacks/techniques that work just fine.
The iPhone DevTeam is comprised of a group of people who work together over IRC from various parts of the world. This distributed method of working happens 24 hours a day with people performing tasks in the time that best suits their time-zones. It is a completely self-managing, self-regulating and member-funded organization. Most of us have never met face-to-face and we rarely know real names - in fact, we would more than likely not recognize each other if we walk past one another on the street. Despite this we follow a strict “hacker code”: ground rules by which we all abide.*
Perhaps the foremost of these rules is management of knowledge. We keep*certain*information private, restricted to members of the team only (to help with points 1 and 2 above), and members are entrusted to make sure this secrecy is consistently enforced. This makes*the team. Only when there is a majority vote from the team do we make any announcement or release.*
So now we come onto Geohot, the self appointed media frontman for last year’s iPhone hacks. Geohot actually worked with us a month or so before the media-circus that he led. Geohot is certainly a bright guy, but he couldn’t abide by rules that I described in the last paragraph and because of this he was asked to leave the team. Of course like any hacker Geohot continued on for his goal.
Using some of our techniques and tools (and some of his) and using his own brain power (and that of an unnamed Russian) he was able to release his hardware hack and demonstrate the first unlocked iPhone to the world, he has also demonstrated other things during the last year and some of those releases have helped us with our work.
We thought that Geohot would have matured somewhat in the last year, but this clearly isn’t the case, as sadly one of the team members has leaked a copy of our exploit to Geohot and he is now using this to provoke us into making an early release :-(
So finally, just in case some of you were wondering, we’re not sitting on this tool because we’re full of ourselves or up our own asses. We’re not sitting on it cause we like to see you writhe. We are testing it to make sure it’s as glitch-free as we can make it. We want to avoid releasing something that turns expensive phones into pretty looking paperweights. Don’t you agree it’s worth the wait?
If others want to feel like they’re in control by posting all-knowing entries on their blogs, we can’t stop that, but the new PwnageTool will be released when it’s ready, and not a moment later.*

      Is iPhone 3G unlocked OTB?

i have seen several videos from the dev team and they all show it going to 1.1.4 and then going to 2.0.

if you read the caption when the mouse went to the 2.0 firmware it said ipod touch.

can someone clear this up and tell weather it is unlockable OTB

Same dude. I'm going to wait at least 1-2 weeks after it's been released then read... read... and more reading before I proceed. To all the noobs that took the plunge and upgraded to 2.0 without waiting, you can unbrick your phone. It's easy... just search and you'll find the answer.

Its the lame Apple morons that are to blame but its the devs that can fix the problem we find ourselves in. They do a good job WHEN they release what they do.
There will always be people doing something wrong and bricking no matter how good and how much they test thier software so either release it or shut up about it.

The next thing I want to hear from the devs is "here it is, download it now". Until then, shut up and stop teasing us with a fix that we cant even have.

Oh, look, I just turned into a dev. "I can jailbreak my iphone but you cant have it". LOL
You seem upset. Maybe you need a break from the internet?

      From the Dev Blog
      Broken iBoot
For the 800 of you who wanted a video, here it is.

This is the command line to talk to your iPhone’s “BIOS” of sorts. It decides what gets run (if it’s signed correctly) or not. Normally it’s very restrictive. Unless it’s been pwned.

Pwnage breaks the chain of trust from the very earliest boot stage, and as the video shows, this chain has now been broken on the iPhone 3G. Given that the only thing lower than this is ROM, Apple will have to change the hardware to prevent us from getting in, and we don’t expect them to ask for your phone back so they can “fix” it.

Please note that this has been anything but trivial, and it wasn’t as easy as porting our old code to the 3G iPhone. Many of our best hackers have been working in long shifts all weekend on this, and continue to do so as I write this post.

      In geohot’s famous words:
“IT GIVES YOU A FULL INTERACTIVE SHELL
I REPEAT, A FULL INTERACTIVE SHELL”

Note that this is indeed what geohot was talking about when we first talked to it almost a year ago. It exists because iTunes needs something to interact with when restoring the phone, but as mentioned above, is normally heavily restricted, only allowing Apple-approved code to run.

P.S: n82ap is the model code for the 3G iPhone.

I've tried it 3 times and still the same problem. The screen stays on the restore image but itunes thinks its all good and you can hear the phone working just no screen.

If you know how to get the screen working again then great, till then I have a brick.

I tried 2 different ways to downgrade both with the same result.
What does "you can hear the phone working" mean? If the phone is in DFU (restore) mode then it's not working. In order to downgrade properly you can not be using iTunes 7.7. Just uninstall 7.7, install the previous version then use pwnagetool. If you can't figure out pwnagetool then I would advise selling your iPhone and get one of these instead: http://www.jitterbug.com/Phones.aspx

This is my first post, but i cant help thinking there are some very stupid people around here.
When all these people crying out for the 2.0 jailbreak finally get their wish, you can bet your a** they will be crying again about the lack of apps. Its a safe bet my favourite apps like fring, isisk, customize, agile messenger and even isolitaire wont be available for a long time after the JB. these things we all take for granted are the only reason to jailbreak(and the unlock of course) and without them the 2.0 jailbreak will, while much appreciated, be very limited for a while, and its going to be comical hearing all these muppets complain after all the beeching.
Chill folks, why does every fanboy want to be THE first for everything. EVERYBODY is going to have an iphone soon, then there will be nothing to get excited about, i'm even thinking of downgrading to my nokia 1220 for some retro snakeage........
We all know there will be a 32gb version early next year with probable voice calling and at least 5 mp camera, i'm waiting for that.

cut from iClarified:-----> The iPhone Dev-Team has posted a link to ihazsupper.com which features a picture of the last supper (everyone has iPhones). Under the picture is a countup timer.

The disciples have been replaced with members of the dev-team with Woz offering them a golden iPhone. Geohot has been seated in place of Judas.

This may be a countup to the release of PwnageTool which will jailbreak the latest iPhone 2.0 firmware and install Installer.app and Cydia. It may also be a heavy satire of GeoHot's Yiphone.org. Ironically, the Dev-Team's counter reaches zero 1 second before Yiphone's counter.

The Last Supper signifies the last dinner with Christ before Judas betrayed him. It also means that Christ would rise in 3 days.

      Hi Guys,

Bought my iPhone 3G, the longest time i've ever stood in line, 7 hours, it was worth every minute!

It has a few problems, but nothing you can't get over.

I found this which was really helpful solving the problems i had with my 3G -
      Problems with Apple iPhone 3G

If you are not sure if whether to buy a 3G or not, take my word, buy one.

      Dear Apple ,
I am ready to pay 3 times more for legaly unlocked iphone , please sale one to me
