  • 3g iPhone Yellow Screens = Apple Fail?
Update: Restore via iTunes to download a new version of the firmware (2.0, 5A347). The colors will look much better after you restore. The shipping firmware on the iPhone 3G is 2.0 5A345. After the restore, the colors will be close to v1 iphone colors. posted by tamakin

Update #2: Some have posted that update #1 doesn't solve the issue, the theory is back to bad consistency between various screen manufacturers.

After waiting in lines and going through the excitement many are reporting that their 3g iPhones have noticeably yellow screens.

In the picture above the iPhone on the left is 3g, while the one on the right is a 1st generation model. If you remember back a year ago to the original iPhone launch there were two different screen types. One was perfect and crystal clear while the other had small but noticeable white dots. Once again Apple's quality control processes seem to be lacking leading to these disgusting yellow screens on many units.

my screen looks perfect however if i turn my earpiece past #1 on my volume everyone i talked to sounds terrible. there is a crackle past volume 1

no matter though they only had the 8GB available by the time i got into the store so i plan on returning it with the $20 restocking fee for a 16GB within a week or 2

lets hope the new one has this same screen

Hahahaha sorry for the spelling mistake. It is close to Olympic time and i work for them so thats all I think about is MEDAL and not METAL.
And its 2AM where I am at so I am too lazy to spell check everything. My bad

I doubt Apple is going to replace anything. Its not like the screen doesnt work. Just because there is a slight tint of yellow doesnt make the screen not functional. I wonder how much money it will cost Apple to replace all those screen with so many 3G iPhone worldwide?

Apple wont replace it and people will get use to the yellow especially for new iPhone owners that never experience the first gen and have nothing to compare it to.

Try holding the power button down. this usually works for me when installer freezes on me. If that dosent work then restart the phone (Home+power)

Hmmm maybe the 16gig doesn't have the yellow tint? Perhaps Apple only used cheap LCD screens for the cheap $199 8gb? Ahhh who am I kidding?! Apple standards are crap now.

Wow, I had one of the first iPod touches and that had the bad blacks, then I got a refurbished 1st gen iPhone and that had a blue screen. Both of which I had replaced.
Luckily I can't get a 3g iPhone without an unlock so I am safe from this one!

i might use my gps tommorow to take me to my local apple store, but before i do that ill use my blazing 3g internet speeds to find the stores phone number.

none of which can be done on 2g.
Why is every post by you (everyone I've seen) always 1st gen iPhone VS. 3g iPhone? Why all the hate? Do you want a cookie for getting the 3g iPhone?

Anyways, just a thought, could the yellow tint be from having the phones sit in the sun? I remember pictures of the iPhone boxes sitting outside of an warehouse. Don't know how long but a random thought.

They CAN'T be yellow like that, they just can't lol.

I purchased a 16GB 3G this morning, and yes, it has a yellow tint, but no, I didn't notice it until I started reading this thread, and then compared it to my 2G 16GB. Maybe apple did this intentionally, perhaps to help with battery life to support 3G?

      Guys and Gals...

I just got back from purchasing my iPhone 3G Black 16gb.

Yes, it had a yellow screen! But I have a fix for it! Go to settings > brightness > turn it all the way up!

Voila!....you will have a bright ***** screen...in fact...brighter than the original iPhone first gen.

The reason for the yellowish screens is simply because Apple has the brightness setting low. Also...seems they went for a warmer screen tone...than a cooler tone. This is because 3G is blazingly fast and on fire!!!!! and they wanted a warm fire tone! I actually prefer the warmer tone....but increasing the brightness really makes that yellowness go away. Hope this helps everyone!
