  • ZiPhone - Unlock, Jailbreak, Activate, REPAIR your iPhone - NO DOWNGRADING REQUIRED!
Zibri has released ZiPhone - an incredible tool for activating, jailbreaking, repairing, and unlocking all versions of iPhones (unlock only works on 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 OTB).

Its incredibly easy to use, and both OS X and Windows versions are included in the download. Instructions from the readme:

Connect a brand new phone to the dock.
    Run the program

Well, you can also use a restored phone...
Or a normal in use phone...
    Well... whatever !
Windows download the app from the MMi downloads section (this version is packaged with the .exe gui), or if you're not an MMi member you can download it here or from MediaFire. Windows users you can get a gui here Copy to Ziphone folder and run. requirements : .Net framework 2.0 or above

OS X download the app here, or if you're not an MMi member you can download it here.

If you would like to compile the latest version the SVN is located: http://iphone-elite.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ZiPhone/

Here's how to use the app:

    Tutorial for noobs:

    1. Put iPhone in Dock

    2. Copy all files under C:

    3. Start/Run --> write cmd --> Hit Enter

    4. Drag ziphone.exe into the cmd window and you will see this:

    C:ziphone.exe"

    5. type -j -a

and it need to look like this:

    C:ziphone.exe" -j -a

    6. hit enter and follow directions! Directions looking like this:

    Source code available at: http://www.iphone-elite.org

    Loading zibri.dat.
    Searching for iPhone...
Please power off the iPhone, then hold the home button
and connect to dock to enter recovery mode.
    Working...
    Please wait 45".
    Done!

( To put your iPhone in recovery mode, hold down sleep/wake + Home Button until you see the iTunes logo on your iPhone)

    7. Do the same thing with dragging ziphone.exe to cmd and write -u

    This looks like this:

    C:ziphone.exe" -u

    Loading zibri.dat.
    Searching for iPhone...
    Working...
    Please wait 2'30".
    Done!
I will have a better guide up soon in the Wiki, this is just a basic rewrite of a guide a user tossed up.

Mad props to Zibri and the elite dev team for their incredible work on this!

This tool also can repair a phone with a "dead" baseband. To quote Zibri's blog

To REPAIR a *DEAD* baseband, do THIS:

Put the iphone in recovery mode (NOT DFU..normal recovery mode)

    Then run: ziphone -u

And you will have back IMEI and WIFI.

This procedure already worked on 3 phones.

      First of all,

go to installer and refresh your sources.

If necessary, add community sources(though I think they are already preinstalled).

Then install BSD subsystem(found under System) and then install Open SSH.

      Worked for me this way.

      Hope this helps.

Here's what worked for me on my 1.0.2 OTB Jailbreak'd/Unlocked updated to 1.1.1:

      A few things to mention:
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, iTuneshelper is disabled. iTunes is set NOT to automatically check for updates. I have an Apple Universal Dock w/TV output and remote, and I am connected via a powered USB hub.

Skip steps that you don't need to follow... if you don't know which ones, then stop and get someone to help you.

      1. Upgrade iTunes to 7.6 (including rebooting)
      2. Sync your iPhone
      3. Disconnect the iPhone and put it in DFU/Recovery Mode
      4. Reconnect and let iTunes update the phone to 1.1.3/4.6.
      - Once completed, a message "Unsupported SIM" will appear in iTunes
      5. Click the eject button in iTunes next to the iPhone
      6. When the iPhone is removed from the list, click FILE then CLOSE WINDOW
      7. Run task manager and ensure the itunes.exe process is not running.
      8. Start ZiPhone 2.0 GUI
      9. Check UNLOCK/ACTIVATE/JAILBREAK/VERBOSE
      10. Connect your iPhone and turn it on
      11. Click START in ZiPHONE
      12. Once complete, click QUIT
      13. Start iTunes
      14. iTunes will detect a new iPhone and ask if you want to restore
      15. Select your last sync (it will be in a pull down) and execute

Once complete, you will have 1.1.3/4.6 fully jailbreak'd, SIM unlocked, youtube working, google locate me working... well just EVERYTHING working perfectly with installer installed already. Couldn't have been easier.

ALSO, I have confirmed this process has worked on both a 1.1.2 OTB and a 1.1.1 OTB on Windows Vista Home and Windows XP SP2 respectively using the standard dock.

Wow!!! That was awesome... So fast!!! Reminds me of the 1.1.1 process... Worked on mine (1.0.2 OTB) with a little snag - nothing reading couldnt fix... After reading this thread all problems have been worked out...

Talk about saving you time 1.1.1 > Oktoprep > 1.1.2 > Jailbreak > Dev - Took more than an hour!!! This method - less than 2 minutes!!! Awesome!!! Just Awesome!!!

Which ziphone(&options) can I safely use to have it unlock, jailbreak, and activate my iphone while avoiding it downgrading my bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9.

I am an ATT Cust also,
If you run ziphone.exe -j it will just jailbreak it.
All is still functional, if anything, my reception got better!
I was 1.1.3 locked before this.
Google Maps Locate me still works,
      Youtube still works.

So I've had an iPhone since day one... and I can't help but to notice that this method is quite popular. I've never "jailbroken" or "unlocked" my phone. So my question:I'm running 1.1.3, I plan on keeping my provider, although I do want to "jailbreak" for the allowing of 3rd party apps. All I want to know is where do i start? And if I go through the process of "jailbreaking" will all my features work? And if for some weird reason I no longer want to have a "jailbroken" phone will restoring it completely restore it?

      Thanks
If you want to stick with ATT which make life so much easier, the ZiPhone.exe program is the way to go for jailbreaking.

You DON'T need to unlock (unlocking is for people who use other carriers: Tmobile verizon...)
Download and run Ziphone per the instructions with just the (-j) command:
      cziphone.exe -j
This will work for you, Also if you decide that your phone needs apple service, just go to itunes and restore. You could get extreme and erase all of the info using ziphone, but a plain old restore should be good enough.

Hope this helps, welcome to the free world!!!

Command Prompt is a Windows Thing, that's why you can't find it.

Also I believe that ziphone was compiled on Leopard, OS X 10.5
It does not currently work with Tiger.

Yes your new phone is unlockable, you just need the correct system. Sorry

It is important to mention that the latest version of ZiPhone works perfectly fine with any version of iPhone and BL!! Including iPhone FW 1.0.2 with 3.9BL!

Mine is a 1.1.1 OTB iPhone, I did the update to 1.1.3 FW using iTunes and then I let ZiPhone do the rest.

      Thanks Zibri....

One thing I've noticed is that after using Ziphone which works wonderfully, is that there is 191mb of memory taken up. I'm sure this is addressed somewhere within this massive thread...is it just the firmware or can this memory be freed somehow?

Thank U SO MUCH for takng the time to write this. I had a hard time getting my phone to unlock. I had a 1.1.1 jailbreaked/unlocked phone and followed this exact process, except I held the SHIFT button when pressing restore to select a 1.1.3 update I had downloaded, because if you just hit update, you will get the 1.1.4 update. Hope this helps others!

I can confirm this does not work on a 32GB Ipod Touch. If you use it you will have to perform a full restore
