  • Use Installer to Jailbreak 1.1.3 - MMi Installer Repo
1/29/08 pf update: This method uses the Dev Team's jailbreak method. They have now released their own Installer version of it on the ConceitedSoftware Community Source, so we will be removing ours.

1/31/08 update: Regardless of whether you have ATT or not, say YES to hacktivation using this method - if you do not, iTunes will throw an error and not let you use your iPhone until you restore to 1.1.1.

    Digg It!

Hey! So we've made it even easier to Jailbreak 1.1.3 using the Dev Teams jailbreak method. You will now find 1.1.3 Dev Team Jailbreak in installer, provided to you by the ModMyI repository.

Poetic_Folly and I have written up a package and tested it thoroughly and it appears that there are no issues running this Jailbreak from Installer

    Requirements
    • Jailbroken 1.1.2 phone
    • Newest version of BSD Subsystem -- version 2.0
    • Latestest Update of Installer.app -- version 3.0b10 (If you are not using the newest version installer will not work on 1.1.3)
    • Phone connected via wifi (its a large download)
    • Settings->General->Autolock SET TO NEVER

All you need to do is find the 1.1.3 Dev Team Jailbreak package in Installer and run it. The rest will be done for you. Once done (about 20 mins - some reports have been as long as 50 minutes) your phone will restart and you will be updated and jailbroken to 1.1.3!

Refresh Your Installer Sources to See It

    F.A.Q.
    • I'm on 1.1.1, can't I just install this from there? No. If you're on 1.1.1, follow the guides to update to 1.1.2 jailbroken (and unlocked if you need it), THEN run this from Installer.
    • I already did NateTrue's jailbreak method. Is there a difference? Should I do this one? You don't have to. Supposedly NateTrue's method will break functionality needed to support official 3rd party apps when they come out in February, so it is a good idea to use this method instead.
    • Ok, but how do I erase Nate's method and use this one? You'll have to use iTunes to downgrade all the way to 1.1.1, then follow guides to get back to a jailbroken 1.1.2, and then run this script.
    • What about Google Maps' new features? Do they work any better with this method? Just like NateTrue's method, this does not update your baseband, just your firmware. So yes, you'll still have the same issues with Google Maps not wanting to locate. The going method to fix this is install Navizon, open it and have it find you, then go back to Google Maps and it should work.
    • Will my ringtones/sound/SSH/EDGE/mouthwash still work after I do this? Sure.
    • What about my applications? Do I need to delete them? Will they still be there in 1.1.3? You don't need to delete them, but you will need to reinstall them when you get to 1.1.3. NOTE: SummerBoard and Customize don't work with 1.1.3 yet.
    • Does this method clean out that 185 MB restore file it downloads? No. You'll need to delete it still once you get to 1.1.3.
if you don't want to use installer but would still like to update via the dev teams method we have MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS

THIS IS THE DEV TEAMS METHOD so the normal issues are there, some ppl it hangs at the end. IF you want to watch a log of whats going in while you are on 1.1.2 ssh in and run /Applications/Installer.app/Installer then use installer on your iphone to run the jailbreak. You will see a log of whats going on in the ssh window.

When completed and on 1.1.3 only if you having a problem syncing use scp to copy over syncfix.sh file from this archive to / directory of your iphone. The ssh in and run syncfix.sh. Your syncing problem will be fixed.

Ok i'm on a 1.1.2 working jailbroken iTouch. I read the front page, clafified everything and proceded to install the 1.1.3 fix jailbreak. I used the package released under the contact of "Apple" and waited about 30 mins, the thing never told me have a sandwich. After 30 mins it rebooted and it still said "slide me nigga" as my unlock string so I slid and unlocked and eargerly tested the "wiggle" and it didn't work. All my 3rd party apps still there. Cheched in settings and it's still 1.1.2? Btw my iTouch was connected to a charger but not a comp. Any ideas?

since very few people seem to be reading/researching before they post I will provide some simple 1.1.3 jailbreak instructions.

      1. Wait 1-2 weeks for all the problems to be ironed out, then upgrade. By then any question you could possibly have will have been answered.
      2. Until then... read, read, READ!!!!
      3. Now read some more
      4. If you are comfortable with the process and you a link to a good FAQ about problems/solutions then upgrade.

I can't feel sorry for people who jump into a fire without realizing the potential to get burned... then whine and ask the same question that's been answered 1000 times already pleading for help. By the time I decide to upgrade everything will be fixed and my download time will only be 10 minutes. Just wait.

Download time 10 mins? The download time will probably stay relatively close to it's original, since it has to download a new framework, which takes an alright connection 15-20 mins to download it off iTunes. You obviously did no research toward that comment and then I only can assume that applies to the rest off the post. Really, they're might be a couple off bugs but most likely nothing that's break your iPhone/Touch completely.

I know a post that starts with "sorry if this is a stupid question" will be immediately ignored... so now that I have prefaced with something else let me ask my stupid question: Where is the BSD subsystem in installer, or what source does it come from because i looked under all aps and I can't find it. how do I upgrade it. thanks!
oh! and i was still wondering if I can use the dev teams 1.1.3 jailbreak method on a phone that has never been upgraded to 1.1.3. (is the baseband worked out)
nevermind about the BSD subsystem... figured it out.

still wanting to know if the dev teams 1.1.3 jailbreak requires you to upgrade to 1.1.3 and then downgrade back to 1.1.2 to fix the baseband issue that NateTrue had.

Read the complete guide over here. If you follow directions and read the other notes, understand them, and THEN jailbreak your iPhone to 1.1.3, you are set.

Dude, you DO NOT have to be at 1.13 at ANY time before doing this upgrade method.

Hi everyone! I'm on my third try with this. I completed the first two tries with the Installer package, and the third manually. Basically everything seems to go well, and then the phone reboots. It will sit at the Apple screen for about 10 minutes and then reboot again. This continues over and over. I am able to get into restore mode and downgrade back to 1.1.1 and then to 1.1.2 without a problem. I've let the phone sit like this for about an hour. Am I just not being patient enough? When I ran the script manually through SSH, I did see one difference between the screenshots in the instructions and my Terminal output. After the line "Archive successfully decompressed as /private/var/disk0s1.dd" I get "mount_hfs: Resource busy".

I'm not sure why this would happen after three fresh restores, same thing everytime. I did try going into restore mode and then launching independance.... no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll probably go back to 1.1.2 so I can get to sleep and still have a working phone for tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

I feel like this question is being exhausted. I've searched the thread high and low, but not one person has yet revealed the location of the 185 MB installation file. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

      I agree!

I've also searched all over the site and I can't turn up anything. There's not much of a point to having a jailbroken phone when i cna't use installer to install anything.

      Please help!!!

I did the whole process from an ipod touch jailbroken at 1.1.2... no warnings, no error messages but at the end it got upgraded to 1.1.3 but Installer is nowhere!
