  • SlingPlayer Targeted in AT&T TOS Update

Where is SlingPlayer? Why hasn't it been approved yet? When is it coming?

If AT&T has anything to say about the issue SlingPlayer will never see the light of day on the App Store. Two weeks ago a rumor started circulating that AT&T was stopping SlingPlayer from being approved. The rumor started because AT&T's TOS were updated to prohibit "customer initiated redirection of television or other video or audio signals via any technology from a fixed location to a mobile device." This was later removed by AT&T and calimed to be a mistake.

Some weeks later SlingPlayer is still missing from the App Store and it is becoming clearer that AT&T is most likely influencing the App Store approval process with their latest TOS update.

While most common uses for Intranet browsing, email and intranet access are permitted by your data plan, there are certain uses that cause extreme network capacity issues and interference with the network and are therefore prohibited. Examples of prohibited uses include, without limitation . . .downloading movies using P2P file sharing services, redirecting television signals for viewing on Personal Computers, web broadcasting, and/or for the operation of servers, telemetry devices....
SlingPlayer redirects television signals. AT&T's TOS for their wireless broadband network specifically prohibits that. It isn't looking good for SlingPlayer.

How can it compete with something that's not there? AT&T doesn't have a TV app for the iPhone, so Sling has no competition.

Now, if AT&T was going to release their own TV for the iPhone in the future, THEN Sling would be in competition with them, but that's not the case now and nothing was publicly announced.

I really think that apple should just approve the app or give us flash for the iphone. Cause all you need is flash to run the sling player from sling.com

I also use sling on my Blackberry Bold which is on At&t, so I don't understand what's the hold up for the iPhone version.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up WinMo. ATT has nothing to do with the app approval process - Apple does.
With that logic I can put forth the same arguement regarding Starplayr -"I ran it on my winmo how come I can't have it on the iphone!!!!
