  • iPhone 3.0 Beta 4 and iTunes 8.2 Pre-Release.

Two weeks after iPhone firmware 3.0 beta 3 Apple has released iPhone 3.0 beta 4 (7a300g) to those participating in the iPhone Developer Program. So far what's new in this latest beta is the Store settings pane is now functioning. Once you are signed into your iTunes account you can edit your payment settings. Will update this thread as more info from beta 4 comes in.
    • iTunes 8.1.1 restores beta 4 firmware just fine . . . well until the end. Nice error 10. Installing iTunes 8.2 and restoring on beta 4 works fine.
    • After you take a pic you have the option of re-taking.
    • While playing shows if you are connected via some bluetooth (image via macrumors)
    • Tethering already enabled without patching (possibly only if you had it enabled before restoring?). I can't confirm this with my phone. What I can confirm is after loading the hack along with my network update for AT&T tethering does work fine on beta 4.
    • Error 3004 probably means iTunes can't connect to Apple servers to verify you have a dev account. Open port 8080 on your router.
    • New iTunes shows how much time remaining to restore backup.
    • New iTunes syncs voice memos.
    • If you get the pink screen of death try try again to restore via iTunes 8.2. It should work eventually (hopefully). A reboot might solve that too.
    • iTunes 8.2 for windows enables usb tethering (even compatible with beta 3)
    • Copy paste now works in the calculator.

iTunes 8.2 was also pre-released. Now iTunes checks that you are a registered developer before updating your iPhone. Macrumors is reporting that iTunes 8.2 carries Blue-ray references to Gracenote that could suggest that itunes might support Blueray reading.

thanks everyone who sent this in

Has anyone noticed an improvement in the SMS App? In B3 it seems very slow and buggy and crashes all the time. It doesn't seem there's any reason to update for me unless this is fixed. Thanks.

      What worked for me was:
      1. Download new files ofr beta 4, iTunes 8.2 (64-bit, since my PC is 64-bit)
      2. Install iTunes and reboot
      3. Update iPhone
      4. Replace ipcc file

Beta 4 does seems to be smoother BUT it doesn't show the options for MMS in any of the apps that beta 3 was. Any ideas???

No reason at all to upgrade, provided, of course, that you don't mind the fact that yours will stop working in a few days....

Unfortunately I can see what CAN come of this. Dead batteries. Lots and lots of dead batteries. I used my HTC touch (Bell mobility with unlimited data for $7 is VERY good) at a store for the primary source for radio. 8hrs a day, 5 days a week. Needless to say it lived on the charger. That thing could be plugged in and still drian the battery! It got hot, and had to be given a rest from time to time. The battery after 6 months was pretty much fried like a green tomato. I noticed when I packed everything up that my iPhone had definately gotten very warm. I hope this doesn't mean cooked batteries on a 6 month rotation. That could get expensive.

Maybe, someone can develop an app that allows you to kill the charging so that the battery is allowed to cycle down properly.

Alright I def need some help here:
I'm having difficulties upgrading to beta 4. I tried the 'Gray Fox' method, but it I dont think it worked right.

I tried restoring to beta 4 in iTunes 8.1, but I just get an Error (10) message.

Is that supposed to happen? Then I go ahead to install iTunes 8.2 and it'll just activate?

Error 10 is for an unregistered udid. Are you registered with a dev?

      Yes, I am registered.

I'm running beta 3, thought that was inferred.

But I need to find a way to upgrade to beta 4, this is very frustrating.

Going of scientific data (my usage for today) and I'm getting:
      Usage - 4 hours, 20 minutes
      Standby - 12 hours, 54 minutes

Battery icon at half way mark.
