  • App Store Reaches 1 Billion Downloads

A short 9 months and 35,000 applications later the App Store has reach an impressive milestone of 1 billion downloads. Guess what, the page looks just like the screenie leaked the other day. The lucky winner of the billion app countdown should be announced on Apple's page sometime soon.

Even though the App Store has its shortcomings, the approval process can be questionable, and many applications are utterly useless Apple has proven their business concept works. Here's to the next billion and hopefully another thousand good apps (kidding, there are probably a couple more decent apps ).

      congrats you lil bastard.
Holy **** that's like right by me. I live in Stamford (the place where that Chimp attacked that lady)

Man, what's a 13 year old going to do with $10,000 dollars for iTunes.

Edit: If you live in Weston you got plenty of money already, most people there can buy all that crap he got without a second though.

It was 13 yrs old Connor Mulcahey, i Weston, USA, who did the 1000 000 000 download in Apples appstore. The app was a free app called Bump.

Ok. I never thought I'd really win anyway, but that really pissed me off how Apple chose the person who downloaded the billionth app. Like someone said before, what WAS the point of the entries and up to 25 a day at that? Apple sucks for that. At least I HAD a chance when it was supposed to just be random.

Another reason why I hate Apple. Why does the iPhone have to be so great?

No, the chances of any of us wining were so slight as to not be worth worrying about. At least it was some kid who will probably make use of the prize.

But I agree with your last question, it would be a lot easier if they made cr*p phones

They did post the rule and it was clear. The billionth app downloaded, or the entry immediately following the 999, 999, 999th app downloaded would be the winner. In the case where there were simultaneous entries/downloads of the billionth app, the winner would be picked randomly from those simultaneous entries/downloads.

They did post the rules, but they certainly weren't clear! Not that it makes any difference
