  • iPhone 3.0 Beta 2 Seeded. Now With Push!

Only a two weeks or so after iPhone 3.0 beta 1 was released Apple has seeded iPhone 3.0 beta 2 to developers registered in the iPhone Developer Program. This beta is very similar to the last one with one major addition: push! The feature that Apple promised AGES ago has finally been implemented with iPhone 3.0 beta 2 allowing developers to use the APIs to begin developing push applications. As expected this beta also has been updated for better stability and performance.

    thx for the tip Alastair

For people asking about how to install this on your iPhone refer to this thread:http://www.modmyi.com/forums/iphone-...ing-spots.html

It's like I always said, iPhone itself is pretty much the gayness. But jailbroken iPhone is pretty much indisputable

Don't fall for this, beta 2 is a trojan.

I heard this new beta also increases the number of homescreen pages to 11.

Yeah because unless you are a developer there's no point to running 3.0 yet, it won't do much.

just wanted to mention that beta 2 is a very significant improvement to performance and looks to be battery life as well. i have been running it since yesterday afternoon now and no lockups or even slow program opening.

      nice work on this one

Will I need to download beta 2 or will it come through Itunes when I connect up?

      Check your Developers account.

Didn't Apple say at the announcement of 3.0 that they had considered Push but decided against it and then gave figures to show a horrendous battery drain?

I wonder what made them change there mind?

Not completely true. I have the first beat and it is very buggy. I talked to a dev the just got beta version 2 and says it runs much better.

I think the horrendous battery drain you're referring to was in reference to running apps in the background, unless I'm mistaken.

I think they decided against running Apps in the background, and PUSH was the best alternative. PUSH is the meat and potatoes of this update really. Thats where they want the developers to focus their attention.

      Your confused.

They showed figures of battery life against Backgrounding apps and Push. They considered backgrounding apps but that used too much battery and so decided on push as it uses less battery.

They said they decided against allowing apps to run in the background. I t decreased battery life by 80 % and Push only decreased it by 20%. I was thinking the same thing when i read it at first.

we will c what they do with the final product and we will see what happens to our jailbreak software with this new one

i bet everyone here all my money (not much) that it is going to be a bit¢h to write apps for cydia on this, and that apple has taken significant measure to block our software
Being that it has been jailbroken already I am not sure under what facts you basis this opinion? Can't they just write them as if they were an AppStore app? Sure it will be more work, but that never stopped anybody.

EDIT CPJR already said this, LOL
