  • Apple Stores Now Selling Unsubsidized iPhone 3G, No Quantity Limit!

AT&T recently started selling contract free iPhone at their stores country-wide. Now, it seems that Apple has joined them as well! The prices for unsubsidized iPhones are $599 for 8GB model and $699 for 16GB model, the best part being no quantity limits like the AT&T store (and a better staff)!

This also means no in-store activation. Though the phone is still technically locked to AT&T, it can be unlocked (think yellowsn0w ).

This move by Apple and AT&T seems to be a great move to clear the inventories and make space for the expected new iPhone models that might be announced at the upcoming WWDC, dates for which were confirmed just yesterday.

why are they still selling these iphone 3gs? aren't they still prone to stress cracking of the outer shell? i'll just wait to the new 3rd gen iphones with a different casing hopefully it will be just reliable as the 1st iphones

idk if all of you can figure this out on your own but this is not a competition... we dont care what number your post is whether it is first or 26th. what would you like us to do send you a congratulations gift basket because you said your number in your post? btw its not even the rite number ^^^

posting is about expressing your opinion and hearing other people's views (at least with front page news) and it is not a game or competition. if we really cared what number you were we would just look in the right side of the box.

this would be so much handier if it was july 2008 again. theres no way to make any moola off this
you obviously have no idea what kind of money apple is making off of this phone. people who have no idea about the new iphone model coming out (basically 90% of the customers) are dying to buy this thing and this move will probably make them millions.

these cracks only happen to the people who are careless and rough with their phones. ive never had one bit of damage happen to my phone and i have dropped it accidentally a couple times but i also keep a silicone case on it all the time for that reason... to prevent damage.

so why would you buy a new iphone if the one you have is already jailbroken and getting video and such. It might be a little faster but not worth the money. 3.0 is going to have everything you need in it. Gonna be a great update.
there is obviously going to be more new features in it besides faster processing otherwise apple would not sell more than 1000 in their first 6 months. our jailbroken phones have way more than 3.0 has to offer. and we can have them now. do you not have your phone jailbroken? maybe thats why you are saying this... we not only have all of 3.0's features but we also have themeing, quick reply texts, and just about anything else that you can imagine (if it isnt already out it is possible) unlike 3.0 where you have all kinds of restrictions. even though apple has loosened their grip on development a little bit, we still have infinite possibilities for what we can do with a jailbroken phone

Grand Total Cost: $490 or so. You actually SAVE $160 doing it this way.
      This is a good way

I will be eligible in April 21st to upgrade to the iPhone 3g (AT&T). I've been wanting to get this phone for ages.
Should I just get the refurbished one (it's 99 bucks for the 8GB), since the new one is coming in the middle of June?

      Better option is...

Purchase an iphone with a gift card at the apple store.
Pay $199 plus tax and activation.
Leave the iphone (off) at home and go buy another.
You'll be asked from the specialist to upgrade at regular price $399 plus tax and activation.
You can now use a credit card.
Within the 14 days terminate the contract, return the iphone, and get refunded $399 back (electronically) to that credit card.

Grand Total Cost: $199 plus tax and activation. You SAVE more this way.

      Some pointers

      1. do not port your number.
      2. Use a credit card for the refund. If you use a gift card again your going to get store credit.
      3. don't use a credit card for the 1st purchase or else they'll know about it.
      4. If apple starts asking about the last iphone you bought just tell them it was stolen or that it fell off the boat. The policy clearly states that new customers are allowed to replace one iphone per line.

Ever heard of irony? Guess not! Didn't realize you had been appointed board police!

      P.s

Please let me know when you're going to Steve Jobs house to throw all your apple equipment through his window. I'd love to see you get arrested!

I'm totally lost here. You're buying the second phone just to return it? Since you quoted the initial phone at $199 why bother buying the second just to return it when not buying it in the first place saves the same money.

Why not just buy one in the UK?

The only problem with buying an iPhone 3G outside of your country is that Apple will not service it. You will need to send it to an Apple store in the country where you purchased it.

Besides this issue, often your iPhone will get held up in customs forcing you to declare it's full value and pay taxes on it. Many eBay sellers don't declare a value for the iPhone, they declare it as a gift. This worked for a while until customs caught on.

Which is kind of hard to do from Australia However, we've been able to purchase directly from the Apple Store and 3 different carriers from last year. It's about $899 AUD ($622 USD) including tax for a prepaid 16GB phone.

For this price, one can almost buy a full carrier unlocked iPhone from Italy or France. Forgot all the countries, but you get the idea.

i'm just curious why people care that there is no limit...there's no possible way to make money i assume since they are so high priced....

has anyone replaced a 2G iphone recently under warranty? i was just wondering if they still replace it with a 2g or not....

I figure these phones will come with 2.2.1 which has the new baseband as posted earlier. I know you can't unlock once the new baseband is on it. Is the dev team ever gonna try to crack the new one or figure a way to downgrade to the old one for yellow snow? Cause if that's the case these no contract phones are useless. I started to get excited and almost had my friend pick one up now that she's in the states but I'm not gonna risk it if the phones are 2.2.1 baseband....
