  • iPhone 3.0 Jailbroken Already

    iPhone 3.0 is coming summer.

And while the baseband IS updated in this firmware (so if you're yellowsn0w unlocked, DON'T upgrade til a proper PwnageTool version is out), 3.0 is already jailbroken, so say the Dev Team on a recent blog post.

And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.
We'll let you know ASAP when a version of PwnageTool which works with 3.0 is out, but rest easy knowing the devices are already ready for WinterBoard and all your favorite jailbreak apps right next to Apple's 100 new 3.0 features.

I think the only thing I have found that is not usable has been YouTube on Edge, Works on WiFi not sure about 3G. But other than that there are few bugs like an occasional app crashing and sending you back to the homescreen. I have been using it since Thursday and I kinda like it really. pretty snappy

Thanks for the post, but i see you have done this in windows and not on a mac because of using (shift) instead of (option) have you testedon a mac yet because i am having no luck updating with it through check for updates while pressing (options) or (shift). It will not allow me to select the file to open. I am doing this on the summary screen for the iphone BTW. thanks - Varsity

Youtube will not work in anything but WiFi if you restore from a backup. Set it up as a new phone and it will work fine.

As I have stated before, this is NOT a beta.
It is a version for developers to develop apps on which is why it is only available to developers.
A beta I might try, a developers version? No thanks.

Who cares what it is. It's on my phone, it has some glitches, but for the most part its yummy.

No need to put a label on it. Considering it's coming out in a few months, I'm fairly confident it's no longer in it's development stage, but it's Beta stage.

Developers need the new firmware before everyone else gets it, so they can fix the bugs in their current apps and create their newer ones up to the standards of 3.0. So they're ready for the official release. (this is at least how I see it)

Again, if you're interested in it, give it a try. You can always downgrade if you don't like it. To me, landscape e-mail, landscape texting, and faster app launching makes it worth it.
I do miss QuickSMS though. I keep clicking volumeUp to send a text. :P

There aren't many features that will make me upgrade and besides I want to see all the new features and what the devs can do with the 1000 new API's and for that you have to wait a few months!!

You are, of course, right. What I meant to say (and patently didn't) was that this is not a public beta and not meant for users to try.

I will still wait until I have to beta test something that needs me to upgrade to 3.0!

Oh ok. It's just funny how loads of people are registering with Apple? to get the 3.0 as quick as they can.

Tbh I don't see the rush, all them feature either don't work or you can get them through Cydia.

Or just know a developer that is nice enough to add you to his dev list.
Either one gets you a ""legal"" copy.

So I tried to update my phone to 3.0,
but I messed up, can somebody tell me what I did wrong? (using windows vista)
      Listed below are my step by step actions to messing up;

      step1; download iphone software 3.0
      step2; turn internet off
step3; while in itunes, I pressed "shift + restore" to browse for my 3.0 restore file, and I selected it, and the process began.
step4; everything looked like it was loading and installing, and then after the installation was done, an error came up and my phone was at the iTunes logo screen.
step4; while leaving my internet off, I had already open some instructions on how to downgrade back (even though people say you cant downgrade once you installed 3.0, because thats bogus)
step5; i downgraded back down, and used quickpwn to assist my downgrade
step6; now i am at 2.2.1 and would like to try again but this time in hopes for success...

can anybody help mee? all help appreciated!

Was your 3.0 file a ""legal"" copy?
You need to know a dev to add your UDID to his dev list or something.

Or so that's what I think.

hmm.. is this the only way to do it?
Why was the beta leaked then if nobody could use it
and if I update to 3.0 using this UDID, do I have to disconnect the internet to sync and can I use my own information to download apps from the app store?

Because people are stupid enough to try illegal software.

      #1, It's not illegal.
#2, stupid? um.. It's not going to ruin your phone. (most likely...)
#3, who gives a crap who uses it. Give it a try before you knock it.
