  • iPhone 3.0 Jailbroken Already

    iPhone 3.0 is coming summer.

And while the baseband IS updated in this firmware (so if you're yellowsn0w unlocked, DON'T upgrade til a proper PwnageTool version is out), 3.0 is already jailbroken, so say the Dev Team on a recent blog post.

And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.
We'll let you know ASAP when a version of PwnageTool which works with 3.0 is out, but rest easy knowing the devices are already ready for WinterBoard and all your favorite jailbreak apps right next to Apple's 100 new 3.0 features.

man, when i saw 3.0, i thought it was a whole new OS like Snow Leopard or something and we would have to pay $1000 to upgrade, but it's just another firmware update, haha, moron.

i can't wait for this, should be cool.

Well. It only works for devs because your device has to be registered with the sdk. If it isn't then you can't register with AT&T. And your phone will be useless.

This is your final warning. Just because YOU are allowed to have it, does not give you the right to freely distribute it

I just want to touch this subject of MMS and AT&T. I am a Retail Sales Consultant for AT&T.

I did not believe that 3.0 would bring MMS, and for good reasons:

      1. When you purchase an iPhone, in the system we take off the ability to MMS. It flips the SOCs from normal texting (MMS and SMS) to just SMS.
      2. If they unlocked MMS, I did not know how our system could/would become retroactive and flip those SOCs back. I figured every customer would have to come in and us switch them back.

I am here to shed a little light on the situation of pricing though.

THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL.. THIS IS MY SPECULATION AS AN EMPLOYEE..

For MMS to work on normal/boring phones you need two things. Internet and Texting.

Individuals: $20 unlimited Texting and the $30 unlimited Internet.
Families: $30 unlimited Texting for entire Fam and the $30 unlimited Internet per iphone.

      That is all you need.

The problem is that although it CAN be jailbroken (in theory) it hasn't been yet. Pwnage has not been updated. Yet.

Its funny reading all the posts on the dev blog,

People need to understand a few things. Everyone seems to be wondering why cant they get a copy of 3.0 now since the Dev guys have it and should be able to revert the baseband.

They probably could release 3.0 but that would create several major problems, Apple in response would most certainly change the official 3.0 release in June to counteract whatever was done, so they would go straight to 3.1 and block all the loopholes the Dev team used.

Secondly most likely the updated baseband in 3.0 is needed by the new OS so if you revert to an older baseband it might not work properly.

There should be a separate thread where only Apple Devs who can legally have the firmware (like me) should be allowed to post.

Its not that I think I'm better or something crazy like that, I just feel like the info would be better if it were separated into 2 threads.

One for people trying to simply get and use the firmware, and one for people who have the firmware working properly because they are using it the official way.

See, this applies to me and other 2G owners. When i got my phone, I was already an AT&T (Cingular previously) customer so I just kept my minute plan and got the $20 unlimited internet/500 SMS text plan and re-signed my 2 year deal. Now, if I decided to upgrade my device to either a 3G or the newly rumored phone to be released this June/July I will have to pay an additional $20-30 per month just to take advantage of all the new features that 3.0 would cover (specifically the GPS turn by turn, MMS, and A2DP). What would you guys and gals do if you were me, stick with my current 2G with the ability to get/use the features of 3.0 that are not available to me via Cydia/Cydia Store, get a 3G now or wait to see if a new phone is released later this year knowing that if I get a new 3G or the unreleased phone that I will be adding another $20-30 to my bill. My current bill per month is about $60-65 (I got a deal with my plan and everytime i call AT&T they tell me that my current setup is a killer deal and they are always trying to get me to upgrade so I will have a new plan and 2 year contract).

If you keep your existing plan for another 2 years would they give you a discount? Here in the UK I got 15/month off my bill by signing up for another 18 Months.

If you do then you could just buy a new iPhone off eBay and keep your existing plan.

If you're a dev, you don't need a jailbreak, the firmware was given to you so you can test apps.

And last I check, you're also under an NDA so you shouldn't even be talking much about it to begin with.

I installed 3.0 on a extra phone this morning and it works good. Don't expect the devs to release the jailbreak until after 3.0 is released to the public this summer.

      Apple:
10:28AM "We're introducing a new API for streaming video and audio. And we're adding an API for in-game voice."

      I asked Qik:
Will the new iPhone 3.0 OS/SDK video API let qik be released in the normal Apple appstore this Summer 2009?

"This API is for playing video, not for recording."

The only think left to install is irealsms and winterboard b/c the rest is taken care of.
I hope that means they will add Video recording in the NEW 2009 iPhone at least.

Actually you are paying $20 for unlimited internet and an additional 200 text messages.

you would be adding $10 a month for the unlimited internet and would lose the 200 text messages.

if you want the same as you have now with a 3G iPhone... then add the 200 text messages for $5.

All in all.. lets say you have 450 minutes with an iPhone 2G: your bill is $39.99+$20=$60 (before tax)

iPhone 3G with same amount of text: $39.99+$30+5=$74.99 (before tax)

It only adds $15 to your bill.

      *******

      TEXT PLANS WITH AT&T
      $5 = 200 TXT
      $15 = 1500 TXT
      $20 = UNL TXT
      FAMILY PLAN
$30 = UNL TXT for all 5 lines.

      IPHONE PLANS
      $20 = UNL internet and 200 messages
$30 = UNL internet and GPS

just in case anyone didn't know the pricing.
