  • BTW xGPS 1.2 for GPS Turn-by-Turn Voice Nav Went Public

Something else that happened during my internet outage! xGPS 1.2 which we gave you a sneak peak of back in February went live. The previous version saw 162078 downloads from our repo and at the time of this posting 121098 have downloaded version 1.2. That leaves about 40,000 of you that still need to update. Do it. The price is right (free). It's worth it I promise . Give some props to the devs!

    From the xGPS folks:
Everybody would say: Finally! Yes, xGPS 1.2 has been released. The version has been sent to the MMI repository and will be available within some hours. It should be in everybody’s Cydia as the MMI repository is installed by default. Just do a refresh within some hours and xGPS should pop up.

This version of xGPS has required us a lot of hours of work. We have tried to bring the most advanced and stable navigation software for the iPhone / iPod touch. However, even if we have made our best, you have to keep in mind that this software is free but not bug free. If you experience such a bug feel free to ask in the forum but do not say “It doesn’t work, it’s crappy”.
Don't forget you can also download their manager for your desktop. If you're having trouble feel free to ask other MMi members here or mosey over to the xGPS forum

Probably why you are having a problem.
(sorry - just read that in your details - i should have looked there first!)
Try upgrading to 2.21 (or 2.20 if you want to unlock your phone).
Lots of software won't run on FW <2.1

Just wanted to echo everyone else's thoughts! This app is simply brilliant considering its free. It rivals my Tom Tom and so much so, I will probably be using this more often in the future than said Tom Tom, simply for the fact I can play music and have a Sat Nav!

I have to plug my Tom Tom in since its battery is pretty much dead, meaning I can't listen to music.

this app is extremely gr8, however, my only complaint is that the map sizes are HUGE!!!! is there any way to compress that. For example i was downloading a map that is 817.76 MB, WILL IT BE THE SAME SIZE ON MY iPHONE 3G?

So far, the accuracy sucks as a pedestrian. The GPS places me several blocks away from where I actually am.

The current location is locked and reset gps won't work.... few kinks but how can we complain when it is FREE?!

Any way to get this to work (rerouting/updating/etc) without the need for a live data connection like TomTom or iGO8?

I know you can download and cache the maps, but you still need a live connection to do searches, destinations, etc.

The app doesn't let me view maps while I'm connected to 3G. But it will connect, give my current location etc while I'm connected to wi fi. Any ideas?

i love the app the only suggestion i have for the devs is to let you download the maps from the web and then upload them to the phone. i tried to download it on the mac application and it took hours upon hours just to download them and took 5 mins to upload it. i have an extremely fast internet connection so there is no way it should take hours before it even lets you click download map and then even more time just to download it once it starts.

Use the xGPS Manager on your desktop. Try downloading a region that is smaller the entire Australia. For car navigation, I use zoom levels of 2,3,4. Zoom level 2 gives me enough detail to read street names. By using fewer zoom levels it reduces the map size. Avoid using zoom lower than 2 because while they provide more detail, they increase the size of your map considerably.
