  • Oregon Trail - Welcome to the iPhone

My favorite thing to do in 1st grade (I think it was first at least... who can remember?) was computer time. An hour a day, we got to play on the computers (Apple ][, baby), which all had the best game ever loaded on them - Oregon Trail (click that link to play it online - sweet). Fight dysentery! Ford rivers! Hunt! Not only was I blazing across the 1848 frontier, as a carpenter from Illinois with my 4 companions, I was also... learning. Egads.

According to IGN, Gameloft is developing an iPhone version of the popular 80s game, complete with updated graphics (although I would pay double if there was an option in the game to use original graphics).

No word yet on pricing or specific release date (IGN just says "February 2009"), so keep on the lookout.

I second the original graphics request.

I played this game and "Hustle" on a Radio Shack TRS80 in elementary school back in the early 80's.

i love oregon trail... i downloaded an emulator at some point in the past few years to play it on my computer. would it be that hard to port the original game to the iphone and have it available on cydia, rather than a cheesy new version for sale on the appstore? that would be righteous!

Hells YeA! original graphic FTW! Screw the updated ones, that only worked when Nintendo updated the graphics for the original Super Mario Brothers for SNES.

Although, now that I am thinking of this, wouldn't there be some way to run something like a DOS box emulator and run the original as a ROM?

I could have sworn I saw a version of O.T. on linux somewhere.
