  • iPhone Firmware 2.2.1 Features Exposed to the World !?!

Apple has not launched a new firmware for quite sometime (not even a small update) since the release of 2.2 version So, we all are excited about the new features coming in the next release but, the leaked feature list doesn't seem to be doing much justice with our aspirations!

Though none of these new features have been confirmed in anyway, they seem to be enough for a small update. First, this new update will include a number of bug fixes which an end-user would rarely even notice. These fixes include fixing the super slow sync speeds which many users (including me) face daily on a PC. The new features are not really big, but include certain interface changes in the SMS application interface and some new features for the Mail application targeting the Corporate users. Another feature which is said to be under beta is deleting all mails at once rather than selecting each in the Mail application. This new version is speculated to release in the upcoming few weeks.

Also, there is another rumor that the next major 2.3 update, which has no confirmed release date will include some sort of option for Bluetooth synchronization with iTunes - but I think this is highly unlikely due to Apple's non-seriousness about other bluetooth issues on iPhone.

Apple needs to add more things to it's update since 2.x and 1.3 they haven't added that much.

      56k?

I get 1000 - 1400k on my iphone. My first modem was 2400 baud (a bargain at a mere 799) but no-one uses 56k anymore.

Yup. Sadly I live up on the top of a mountain basicly in the middle of nowhere. Dial up is all that's available where I'm at. =/

Nope, sadly I don't get 3G service where I am, and EDGE at my house gets about 4k download speeds... If I'm lucky and I'm not doing anything but downloading that one thing, the dial up gets about 5 and sometimes 6k.

So I just have to let it go overnight, and into the next day.

Where is it you said you lived? 1989?

You poor sod. One day you'll get decent speeds - but I guess living where you do probably has other advantages!

Here is an app that lets you send multiple photos through email in itunes....

Ok, I made a statement in another thread that I did not see the need to update my 2.1 jailbroken phone to 2.2 (I know I can save all my current info/settings like contacts, apps (cydia or appstore), etc) because most of the updated material are things that are so small we dont usually notice them. Now this news/rumor comes out, glad I did not update.

Now dont get me wrong, I could easily update, pwn, jailbreak but that is such a hassle since I have my phone damn near perfect for me (plus I used a mac to upgrade from 1.1.4 to 2.1 since the windows versions were flaky (IMO). If I am wrong in my statement and I REALLY need 2.2 (now 2.2.1 i guess), someone plese let me know, I have done all my learning about jailbreaking/unlocking/modding/etc the iphone/touch by myself so I am also looking to learn more.

this is not even a good update why would i update and pwn my phone again!!! and install all my apps and themes all over again it seems pointless ill just wait until a more substantial firmware version comes out

lol for me the only difference with 2.2 and 2.1 is streetview (install it from cydia) and phone numbers display incorrectly (there is a fix on this on cydia) lol i have 2.2 running on my ipod touch because i need it since i develop apps and i want to test them on the latest firmwares.

Well, I have already replaced my SMS and Mail apps with third party ones, and syncing isn't a problem. So theyre not features that will be noticed even if they were any good.

let's be honest here, they are releasing this because with 2.2 the iPhone can be unlocked.

If the next firmware update provides the ability to tether, record video, landscape SMS/Email, multiple email attachments, add/remove themes, Bluetooth A2DP and Bluetooth File Transfer then I'll be impressed. If not then there's no reason not to jailbreak. After all we can get most of these things on our jailbroken iPhones which is surprising considering Apple still hasn't been able to provide at least one of these in an update to compete with competitors since the first iPhone was released.

Oh, but wise Confucious, I loooooooooove my iphone. I had a BB for years, and when I lost my curve, I got an iphone just to check it out. Now it's true love.

Apple has to fix the email soon I figure. They have totally dominated the consumer market at this point. If you are buying a upscale consumer focused phone, you buy an iphone - I don't think the storm changed that and I'm not sure the new Palm will. The big money lying out there for them is the corporate market. I would expect this to be their next major update. It needs to include Cut and Paste, better email, and maybe the ability to save office docs or something like that.

I would kinda think, give the rumors etc, that the iphone will head a bit more corporate and the touch will become more of a gamer's device. But I could be wrong. Whatever they do, I hope they do it soon.

      Cheers,

Well lets be honest here. Apple doesn't care about what the consumer want. They doooo what they please. Well i know this is off topic but copy and past is available in cydia. THIS PROGRAM ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would think with such a desperate cry from consumers they would get on the ball and really capitalize on the amazing piece of hardware they have created with more impressive software updates!

      Just my two cents...

Apple can't compete with RIM in the corporate market and won't for a long time.

If you need a corporate device why do you own an iPhone. It is multimedia, and consumer centric which seems very unbusiness like.

Now, can i please have turn by turn gps and landscape sms.
