  • [Tip] StatusNotifier for Email, SMS, and Call Notifcation in the Status Bar

About a year ago the original Taskbar Notifier was released for jailbroken phones. Unfortunately its development stopped at firmware 1.1.4 leaving us with out this neat little mod on firmware 2.x.

No need to fear today zolee released Status Notifier today in our forums. With a simple install from Cydia (it went on on the MMi repo just a bit ago) you can add notifications for mail, SMS, and call notifications back on your status bar.

You can find it in the Utilities section of Cydia under the name "StatusNotifier"

Note: to use make sure you have Erica Utilities and Java Sqlite3 installed as well. They are both available on Cydia.

Thanks zolee for bringing this to 2.x phones!

      This is frustrating.
I'm with you. This truly is frustrating. I literally, went through EVERY mail on every acct and made sure that I downloaded "rest of the message" when required. Also, I went through all of the trash and sent mail and made sure to download all of these as well. I do not use exchange by the way. The latter of the steps did turn off the icon for about 15min until my mail fetched again and even though I did not receive any new messages the icon popped back up. This is really becoming a bother. I really love this app and I really do not want to delete it however, it is basically useless if it does not give me an accurate reading.

      Your help would be appreciated.

      Kind regards.

      Sure.

To change the duration at which the app checks for new mail/voice/sms
      • WinSCP into your phone with 'alpine' as the password.
      • Use the '/' button to navigate to the root directory.
      • Then navigate to 'usr/local/StatusNotifier/'
      • Right click on 'daemon.sh' and select 'Edit'.
      • Scroll down to the bottom of the code. You're looking for "# Delay (60 seconds) sleep 60'.
      • Change the value '60' to whatever number of seconds you wish. Mine is now at 3 seconds.
      • Click the floppy button at the top left, or click File>Save. You'll be asked to enter your password again. Enter 'alpine'.
      • Close WinSCP and restart your phone.

      Hope that helps!

I had this problem in the beginning... ultimately I realized that I had an AOL mail account turned off via BossPrefs, and there was mail in it.

I turned the account on, deleted the mail, turned it back off, and my mail icon and this entire utility has worked perfectly since!! I even resized all the icons down to 35x35px so they didnt cover my custom battery.
I love this little tweak, its great not have to unlock my phone just to see if I have new email... Thanks Zolee!!!

To all those having problems with the mail icon no disappearing:

Delete the following file on your iPhone:

      /private/var/mobile/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

      That's it. No negative consequences.
The file will recreate itself next time your iPhone checks for mail.
Except this time the "new mail" icon in the taskbar should display only when you actually have new mail.

      Genius Devante,

Removing the Envelope Index file worked a treat for me. Many thanks.

Love this app. Just one small prob. Txt notifications are fluky with iRealSMS. Either I don't get a txt icon at all in the status bar, or I have a txt icon that won't clear until I start mobileSMS (apple's app). Do you have iRealSMS, anything you can do about this? It may be a problem with iRealSMS, but they have not responded to emails over the past couple weeks :/

      Thanks.

removed this app and installed notify. Doesn't require any additional dependencies to be installed.

Same here. I emailed the developers to find out if there is a way to control this. Same guys who made iBlacklist. iBlacklist for iPhone

The previous version worked great with just the icons showing. Since the upgrade to 1.1- there is a 10-15 second sound notification.

I did this and even reinstalled the app, but the theme still doesn't show up. Any thoughts?

I'm not saying this app is fault, I install lots of stuff. But after yesterday's upgrade, my battery always reads 100% full. AGAIN, it may not be this app. I'm just trying ot track it down. Anybody else having this prob also?

      Thanks.
