  • Receive MMS on the iPhone

SwirlySpace, the guys who brought us the MMS app back in December, have updated to version 0.3, which now lets you receive MMS!

This is "very rough" according to them, but a new version will be released soon after which will be much more polished. The good news is - it works. MMS receiving on the iPhone! It should appear on Installer within 24 hours.

    http://blog.swirlyspace.com/

You can add this from Swirly's source until Ste gets it up - swirlyspace.com/SwirlySpace.xml and add version 0.3.2.

A list of carrier settings can be found here.

T-Mobile USA's settings are (thanks, insomniaparatus):

    T-Mobile (USA)
    MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS-APN: wap.voicestream.com
    User: empty
    Pass: empty

      just like a text
but until then, you cant "fetch" or attempt to get anything

you need to make sure you have "System File Access" turned ON in mobilefinder
also turn OFF "Startup in Last Location"
then set your startup location to this exactly, caps and all

      /var/mobile/Media/MMSFiles

then what i do is hit the return button (if in a text box)
then hit finder right next to settings
      then exit the program
      respring
      and try going into it

      mine are:

      MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
      Proxy: 066.209.011.032

      no APN/Username/Password
There was no MMSFiles folder, i had to create it, is that normal? So far i've had two pictures sent to me.. SwirlyMMS didn't have a little "1" pop up, and now i don't even get the link with username/password to login to viewmymessage.com to view them.. doh! I did everything you said, so far now luck. Any other ideas?

Update.. i DO get my links in my regular SMS to viewmymessage.com, but still nothing in SwirlyMMS. Blahhhhh!!! Does everyone have to make the MMSFiles folder in /var/mobile/Media, or is that just me?

upgraded to 0.3.3, uninstalled prior version, screwed up entering my server/proxy info again, fixed it, worked great on wifi ... but not on edge. actually edge was down. checked APN settings and seemingly the mis-typed proxy (wap.voicestream.com mistakenly typed as wap..voicestream.com) made it into my apn settings and obviously shut down edge access. sadly, the correction never made it into the apn settings. need to mention that saving the settings took awhile ... just in case somebody is looking for "why did i loose edge after upgrading"

What firmware version is your iphone? Did you install 2.2 or 3.2+ swirlymms? And if you did install 3.2+ did you UNINSTALL 2.2 or did you just install over it?

Also for those having problems with small pictures you can try faking your iPhone to the carrier so that it sends the picture in a larger format as some carriers send very small pictures if they don't know what phone it is being sent to.

      umm...you dont actually type "path_to_the_picture"
you type in the actual path
      to the picture....
      ex

      file:///var/mobile/Media/MMSFiles/the_pictures_name
substitute "the_pictures_name" with the name that it says in mobile finder for the picture

      ummm
did you go to the very ROOT
      not the default dir
you have to go to the very root
      there are different /var/mobile folders
      make sure you are in
      /var/mobile/Media/MMSFiles
      and not
      /private/var/root/var/mobile/Media/MMSFiles

although, if you have not recieved files through swirly
it may not have created the directory anyway

interresting what did "att" tell you to put in?

I can't find anyone on here or swirly forums that have the same problem as me but i'll repost again.. lol:

I can recieve mms from everyone. I can send mms to my wife's iphone and she can open it etc. I can send mms to my friends but when they recieve it they try to open it and it says that the picture is too large. No matter what setting I put it on, even minimum 8k...

      iPhone: OTB 1.1.1
      firmware: 1.1.4
      status: Jailbroken (ZiPhone 2.5)
      service: AT&T (Cingular) USA
      MMS (0.3.2): receiving: yes
      sending: yes
(though no one can open the files yet because they are "too large" except
      my wifes iPhone)

like i said, if you havnt actually recieved a picture through swirly, the directory probably wouldnt be there
what is your phone plan like with them?
how do you have it set up?
and also, did you power cycle your phone?
      turn off
      leave off for 30 secs
      power back on

Yes I did all of that...
I just uninstalled and then reinstalled the latest swirly version. I then proceeded to use what everyone on here says to use for cingular/att
      mmsc.cingular.com
      066.209.011.032
      result: DENIED!
Att rep told me these settings:
      mmsc.cingular.com
      66.209.11.61
      wap.cingular
      [email protected]
      CINGULAR1
      Now what?
