  • iPhone Firmware 3.1 Live for Download

If you jailbreak we suggest you wait for a solution. If you unlock do not update yet. Especially 3G and 3GS users!
read the above as a warning not to update. don't update. updating is not a good idea. if i were you i wouldn't update. etc.

    iPhone 3.1 features:
    • Genius recommendations for Applications (Yes, it tells you what apps YOU want)
    • iTunes 9 support
      - Genius Mixes
      - Organize your apps directly in iTunes
      - Improved syncing options for music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and photos
      - iTunes U content organization
    • Redeem iTunes Gift cards, codes and certificates in the App Store (previously only worked in the iTunes app)
    • Display iTunes account credits in the App Store and iTunes Store
    • Browse and download ringtones wirelessly from the iTunes Store (for $1.29 a pop. rip off report.)
    • Save video from Mail and MMS into Camera Roll (of course MMS has to actually be working first. Too lame)
    • Better iPhone 3G Wi-Fi performance when Bluetooth is turned on
    • Remotely lock iPhone with a passcode via MobileMe (now THAT is neat)
    • Use Voice Control on iPhone 3GS with Bluetooth headsets (about damn time Apple - stop slacking)
    • Paste phone numbers into Keypad (what took ya'll so long?)
    • Option to use Home button to turn on Accessibility features on iPhone 3GS (w00t w00t inverted screen with the touch of a button)
    • Warn when visiting fraudulent websites in Safari (anti-phishing)
    • Improved Exchange calendar syncing and invitation handling
    • Fixes issue that caused some app icons to display incorrectly (and i thought the compass was youtube this whole time . . .)

This conference was all about iTunes and iPod, the music part of Apple. They have other conferences for the iPhone and other hardware. So for them to really include much for the iPhone at all is nice. The phone is already very useful but the upgrades they have been doing yearly are improvments and a lot of work goes into those. But we can't forget the iPod which is what gives Apple a massive boost.

doesn't look like its worth all the trouble of upgrading. i hate having to upgrade and re-jailbreak, re-install all my apps and lil add ons from cydia. such a pain. soo it looks like ill probably still be sticking to my unlocked 3.0

Hows the home sharing thing work? Does it all have to be from the same itunes account?

I have read the 11 pages so far, and no one has ask about the wi-fi bluetooth thingy:

Better iPhone 3G Wi-Fi performance when Bluetooth is turned on

How this work??? Whats the trick there????

I think its only if you have another computer and use the same itunes account on it..thats all not sharing between different itunes accounts or family members....

i have no need for unlock..just jailbreaking so i took the plunge to 3.1, toyed around with it..used the icon mover in itunes..then downgraded back to 3.0.1 and gave my self a backup, a quick rejailbreak and im running fine..

either way im sure most of you guys are guna end up bumping to 3.1..so basically all i lost was a chunk of my cydia apps..themes, sounds, some programs that i can live without for a bit..so instead of completely redoing everything im satisfied

JUST alittle pissed that aptbackup didnt pull through when i needed it..that would have been beautiful..i learned my lesson to backup aptbackup lol for next time..

How did aptbackup let u down? It worked great for me going to 3.0.1 and I'm counting on it for 3.1!
For those of you worried about reinstalling cydia apps, btw, aptbackup is great... Backed up my cydia apps, restored fresh to 3.0.1 when it first came out, jailbroke, restored w aptbackup, reset phone and I was right back to where I was...

Oops my bad, I meant pkgbackup not aptbackup. Big diff.

I guess as a business type user I keep hoping for more useful upgrades. I forget that the iPhone is still considered a "toy / music player" to most. Heck, I don't have so much as 1 mp3 loaded on my phone.

Truthfully..i dont know, i did everything the right way..

downloaded it..hit backup, then backed up on itunes..installed 3.1, played around...downgraded and restored using the exact backup..rejailbroke and went back to aptbackup and downloaded it and click restore..and it gave me the error that there was no file..

did i do something wrong? skip a step..i saved the exact restore in a seperate file as a copy incase anything went wrong..

      ______________________

and for whoever installed 3.1 i think trying to jailbreak and not unlock..restore the 3.0.1 back to your iphone..download Quickpwn 2.2, wait for the screen to pop up saying hold down the power and home button for 15 seconds and itll be downgraded..

otherwise your stuck in a never ending loop of errors..

dont actually jailbreak with 2.2 just use the 15 second screen wait for it to reboot then exit out..

      Just to update!!

so i went to the apple store tonight, to get my iphone replaced for a bad battery. my 3G was unlocked/jail broken on at&t. so i restored my iphone 2x because the first time i restored from a backup and tethering was still enabled so i restored again and than updated to 3.1 and now i have a brand spanking new iphone with no hassle from apple.

so for anyone wondering if you can unlock/jailbreak yes you can replace your iphone under warranty with no problems.

as far as 3.1 goes, i didn't notice any battery improvements if anything i fel the battery drained faster but my battery was bad to begin with so its not that accurate to tell if it was the phone or firmware. the phone did feel much more responsive than before on 3.0 it felt good. one thing i noticed was that under usage now it has data usage for network and tethering. which i thought was cool because we can keep better track of how much data we are using while tethering. but i didn't have tethering enable to check if tethering worked on 3.1 sorry. over all 3.1 feels better than 3.0 so i hope the dev-team can get us a jailbreak for 3.1 soon.

Knowing that the new iPhone 3.1 software had just been released, the first site I turned to for the full scoop was MMi. I have been a member of this web site for a very long time now, and started jailbreaking and unlocking when jailbreakme.com was the "craze".

While reading a very appreciated, needed, and innovative list of improvements to the iPhone OS, I just couldn't get myself to ignore the pompous arrogant "additions" in blue. It seams like the moderators/owners of this website have lost site at the whole reason they are able to profit from this community, Apple has made it possible. They have made it possible by creating an incredible device, with an incredible OS and set of features. Apple has kept this "community" alive by constantly updating, improving, and further innovating the iPhone and its OS (which no other phone manufacturer has done half as well as Apple).

Let's all remember that Apple has only been selling cellular telephones for a little over two years. Everyone expects absolute perfection from Apple, and they are pretty damn close. Yes, there are some features that were late in the their arrival, and I understand why people complain (as do I). But, to complain when Apple takes action, and develops/integrates these new features is just too much...

I hope the moderators don't take this wrong way, I do appreciate what this site has done, and MMi has propagated a lot of development in the jailbreaking, unlocking, and 3rd party app development "world". Just figured I would voice my opinion. Apple bashing has just become far to acceptable...

      Sincerely,

      Joe

I don't get it, I thought MMS was included in this build but just had to wait till AT&T turns it on Sept 25. I thought I read somewhere people updated to 3.1 and had mms on there and got it working also. Well I just updated and don't have neway for mms. Am I missing something or r they just going to release like a 3.1.1 on sept 25th?
