Recently there has been some fuss over the fact that companies like Pinch Media, Medialytics etc have been tracking iPhone users on a level that is almost disturbing... They are able to tell device model, your location and whether you are jailbroken (just to name a few). After a few days and tons of ideas on how to stop this, Pinch Media actually approached Jay Freeman (known as saurik to many in the jailbreak community, author of Cydia), and they worked out a way to stop their tracking on jailbroken phones without damaging other services. Medialytics also got involved and supports this wholeheartedly. Check Cydia now for PrivaCY.

As you will notice this comes with an update to Mobile Substrate and a simple preferences pane that allows users to choose whether or not they want to block each individual service.

EDIT: Install the new updates in Cydia so you get the Repo. Then go to PrivaCy "Opt-Out" on the Cydia home page and install PrivaCY. After a respring check the settings and it should be there.

Thanks saurik you are the best, I'll turn off everything, I'm tired of "do you want to allow location" almost every 5 seconds on some applications.

What applications exactly are involve here? I tried searching the appstore for the companies named above and I found nothing -_0

Yes let's block non-private statistics applications gather to help devs improve them.

Now I'll go back to wearing my tin-fool hat.

its pretty obvious that PrivaCY is on the front page of cydia.
Not to everyone. Post kinda made it seem like.. huh? Is this an AppStore thing? Cydia? Etc... not everyone knows Cydia like the back of their hands.

It is nice to see that the companies came together to help with the "opt out" package. Even better that they are recognizing the JB community and what it can do.

Are you people new to the Internet? Web browsers have been doing this for YEARS. Web sites can track what browser you use, operating system, etc. Services like steam can even see what hardware you're computer has. It's all used to propagate and deliver ads for the correct demographics. Also, when they say they track your "location", it's only the region/city. No one can actually pinpoint your location from the data gathered.

Devs can get data like how long a game session is, where people get stuck, even what features of the app aren't being used. I think this is invaluable for developers to properly update their applications.

For example, the developer of Flick Fishing can tell you exactly how many people have opened the manual of the app (around 10%) so for a future update. He can make any gameplay changes a pop-up to make sure everyone sees it since noone reads the manual

In the settings area, does the on mean you are blocking them or does it mean it is on and not blocking??
