Incoming Fall 2009 students are not required to purchase clickers. These students will use the iPod Touch with special software instead of 'clicker' devices. Details are posted in the Computer & Technology Orientation Site.
Enrolled in UF’s College of Pharmacy? There’s an app for that.

This year, all incoming PharmD students will be required to have an iPod touch or an iPhone, making UF the second school to implement the requirement, following the University of Missouri’s May decision, according to AppleInsider.com.

Pharmacists in the future will rely on these devices to access patient medical records and verify prescriptions, he said. A professor in the department of pharmacotherapy, said he believes the new technology will help in the classroom.

Students will use iPod touches or iPhones to participate in interactive quizzes during class and download free applications that will help first-year pharmacy students learn the names of various drugs, Munyer said.

The college is developing a simulated patient that students will be introduced to at the beginning of class. Students will receive updates and messages about the status of the patient and its therapy throughout the semester.

Don't get me wrong. For EDU purposes, there are other more suitable devices. I am sure most of you here owns the iPhone as the 1st smart phone, so it really look like it's the best so far. I like the fact that the phone is fast and the interface is awesome...but for other business related activities, it's just so limited at this point of time. This phone may become better in the future, but it's still at it's infancy.

If you want to be a moron and start a personal attack on someone for lamest reason of all, 'Spelling', just so that it makes you look smart, whatever

I have owned many SmartPhones over the years. The iPhone might not have the security needed for a business phone but for most people it is just so much better than any other phone it is unbelievable.
In what what wy do you think it is limited? Without being crippled.

I tried to explain this to the previous person you are quoting, but will break it down again for you. The University is not requiring you have an iPhone or contract with At&t. The requirements actually state that you must have an iPod Touch, but that an iPhone will be acceptable.

As a University of Florida graduate I can tell you that when enrolling in most classes you are required to purchase a "clicker", which is a device with a few buttons on it to use during tests, quizzes, etc. in large classes. The University is doing away with such devices and now requiring the iTouch or iPhone, which can be programmed for the same purpose. The means of the iTouch/iPhone software are endless, which we all should know by now if you are on this forum. Being able to write software for the classroom and labs is just the next frontier with technology and the iPhone. I personally believe what is going on at the two different universities requiring this devices is truly amazing and I predict more schools will follow this trend.

i'm glad to see that they're finally getting rid of the clickers. i remember i had to get one for chem 1 then the next year i had to buy another one because they changed the systems. that's $60 right there for something you'll use only for class. not to mention probably having to buy another one next year. i'm glad that they finally decided to stick with one thing so students dont have to waste their money anymore.

oh and GO GATORS!!! another championship, here we come!!

I use it for email at work, controlling my computer at home from work, keeping up with the news.weather, stocks, banking, paying bills, emailing pictures of wrecked cars to the
insurance company and the list keeps going. WAKE UP! How old are you anyway?

Why do you say it's stupid?
They already had to pay for 'clickers' and books so surely you can't be objecting on costs. So do you think it's stupid because you don't like technology?
