  • First official photos of a jailbroken 3G[s] released. Tool not too far away!

Earlier this morning geohot posted the first official photos of a jailbroken iPhone 3G[s]. geohot uses an iboot patch to upload a LLB to the phone which utilizes the 24kpwn patch in the bootrom. He mentions on twitter that a simple change in the current redsn0w would allow the 3G[s] jailbreak:

    geohot:

There is still lot of questions on whether geohot plans on releasing a jailbreak tool of his own or releasing his exploit to the other dev teams working on the project. Seeing as it would only take updating a few lines in redsn0w, I would hope he allows the dev team to update it and get the tool to the public as soon as possible. We almost haz jailbreak.

    Enjoy!

Just giving my thanks to these guys. They all did what they said they would and delivered right on time, .....as SB said they would.

looking forward to the Winterboard fix/patch. Get that and my GS is complete.

the kernel patch has already been released on geohot's blog.
      On the iPhone: purplera1n RC2

for mine, i just ran RC2 on my already jailbroken purplera1n 3GS.

had no problems at all and everything is working fine

winterboard is NOT working yet, saurik needs to update winterboard for the 3GS

Still does not work in Windows 7. Leaves you in recovery mode.

Never gets to the point of actually working...

The Kernel patch fixes some issues with mobile substrate apps,
However, the apps still need to be written to run on the 3G S.

You will need to re-jailbreak your phone. Also Purplera1n RC2 does not work on Windows 7. I have not checked on Vista yet but it should work if you have UAC disabled and run it as Admin

Gotta agree 100% on the no Windows 7 compatibility issue. I tried RC2 on Win7 and it got stuck for what seemed like an hour, lol.

I had to restore it (on an XP PC).....as that's the mode it ended up in, then run RC2 again.

....Just trying to install Cydia now...I'll update later, but the jailbreak was smooth and simple on XP.

......back again. All went well in RC2 just like RC1.

I used my windows 7 and it worked perfectly. No issue at all. All I did was put purplera1n in a folder on the c drive then ran it in admin mode.

very odd, I tried four or five times and it would stop at uploading the payload and leave the phone in DFU mode.

I ran it in Vista (after a restore) and it worked perfectly

Geo says that if you have RC2 you do not need to run RC2a

That was RC2, Geohot released RC2a today with Mac.

Also, some more payload stability improvements were made, and the windows version was updated to RC2a. There is no reason to run RC2a if you already have RC2 installed.
      On the iPhone: purplera1n...for mac

Well if u havent tried RC or RC2, might as well go with RC2a lol Updated versions are usually for a reason and worth it.

      Just curious....

i just ran RC2 over top of RC1 and it took like 1-2 min with no problems...

but how do i know RC2 even installed? is there a way to check?

^^yea, just remove the battery and check the esn number behind that and make sure it says RC2.

If u are sure u ran RC2 then it's on it.

ahh the joy's of jb, I just opened up ibrowse and winscp took the stock sounds i wanted to replace backed them up and using sony's sound forge i made my own sounds, heck i could even use sony acid and make some ringtones for people if they wish... anyways soundforge saves as aif file then i just change the type to caf and replace the file in winscp. Only reason i used ibrowse is cuz its easier for a noob like me to navigate to the UI sounds lol, now i know where they are on winscp so its all good!

If anyone cares to have different sound or sounds on their phone send me a pm and ill make it for ya.. Mods hope thats ok, not trying to do anything bad.. no charge as that would be so wrong and dumb just pm the sound you want changed and what you want it changed to.. supply the sound you wish to have would be even better and easier for myself. If not ill try to find it and convert it and send it back to you with a copy of the original so you can revert back if you wish without having to restore your phone lol
