  • iPhone OS 3.0 - MMS, Copy/Paste, Turn-by-Turn, and much more Summer '09

So it looks like the new OS for the iPhone will be showcased on March 17. Note, this doesn't mean it will be RELEASED next week. As to what the OS will bring, who knows but if it doesn't have push notifications I will be a very, very angry individual.

      3) They allow voice turn by turn driving directions
      4) I dont care too much about MMS, but they should support it!
      5) Oh yeah, they better have something similar to SBsettings. I dont want to have to dig through 4 menus just to shut on/off bluetooth

Is that too much to ask for?

Hopefully its a lot faster and has less lag issues, and or app memory leak crashes

I'm pretty the day we get official copy/paste, it will suck compared with hclipboard.

I'm not sure that it will be faster.
If a new iPhone is due, it is a distinct possibility that it will have a faster processor and the new OS will be aimed at that and will therefore be slower on existing processors.
Even if it's not, presumably it will have more features that will counter any inherent speed improvements.

But this is all speculation. We'll get a preview in just over 8 hours...

I am pretty new to the iPhone world and was wondering would Apple block functionality of the current firmware 2.x and force me to upgrade to OS 3.0? I am pretty happy having an unlocked (yell0wsnow) phone with all good stuff that Jailbreaking has given me (copy/paste, Cycorder etc.) Cheers!

They will not force you to upgrade - jusyt make sure you don't until the Dev Team have unlocked it and you are sure you can get all the features you want.

In the mean time you can continue to use your YellowSn0wed phone.

Just make sure you don't restore through iTunes!

CHeers for that! I've been a bit weary about updating lately, with apple updates on iPhone and computer. They seem to want to block and stop Jailbreaking and i do not want that as it's made my phone better than the diappointing stock phone.

They wont be able to stop jailbreak on current hardware, is just a matter of time until the Dev Team does it

That's a relief as i like my phone as it is at the moment. Just waiting for full functionality of the bluetooth with sweetooth and i'll be even more happy!

The only thing Apple can do to convince me to upgrade to 3.0 is to force the appstore devs to make their apps compatible ONLY with 3.0

Why? 3.0 will presumably be better than 2.21 and as soon as the Dev Team can unlock it I am fairly certain I will be upgrading.

I am not interested in unlocking. I use AT&T here in the U.S. If it becomes jailbroken before the presumed unveiling of the new iPhone in June then of course I will re-pwn my phone. Otherwise I will stay on 2.2 and sell my current phone on eBay to buy the new one.

WOW They're adding so much... I'm going to have to hope the new iphone isn't too expensive, my touch wont see half these features.

And you wonder why turn by turn apps weren't allowed in the appstore...

They're coming now with this. Sygic already made a press announcement today

Sygic GPS navigation // News // CeBIT

The catch (which Sygic got covered) is that for turn-by-turn you need to use your own map data, can't use Google.
