  • MPlayer comes to iPhone

MPlayer, the multi-OS media player which supports mpeg4, h.264, wmv, mp3, aac, wma, real media, and t-dmb formats, has been ported to iPhone and is now available via the ModMyi.com Cydia source.

Ported by skiman100, MPlayer will read any files in those formats in /private/var/media, and play them back. Combine that with dTunes or the MobileSafari download plugin and video sites, etc - and you've got yourself a pretty solid mobile media device. Mplayer is a great way to boost your iPhone's media abilities.

Hosting your app or theme on the ModMyi Cydia source is easy - just fill out this form.

For goodness sake people, it's in its early stages, of course it's not going to be that good. This is the ONLY multiformat player out there for the iphone, now that VLC has stopped development. Be grateful someone has done this.

I found WMV worked ok, albeit a little slow.
Xvid Avi worked, slightly out of sync.
      FlV worked, out of sync.

      Mpg doesn't display, only audio
      Mp4, video/audio out of sync
      Mov corrupted audio/sound.

Haven't tried RM, but it's supposed to be supported.

Now, if those sync issues, and those apple formats were incorporated (shouldn't be impossible as they are already supported by the Iphone player/cycorder) this will be the best multi format player on the iphone...

Show some respect gratitude people, its free, and better than what is available.

I have videos in private/var/mobile within their folders(cycorder, mxtube...) is there any way to make these automatically show up in mplayer. otherwise do i have to create private var media and move them all in there

I tried to find the developer page for Mplayer but couldn't locate it, I would like to provide some feedback on Mplayet. I think its great step in the right direction and each release is an improvement.

The UI features I would like to see are

      1) remember the user settings for sound, skip frames etc
      2) A repeat function so that a movie replays when its done.
      3) a random play function
      4) Play lists.
      5) A selectable progress bar to show how far through the movie you are.

feel free to correct me as i'm new to jailbreaking

but its only good to bypass itunes to listen to mp3's

otherwise its the most crappiest program EVER it actually made watchable smooth movies UNWATCHABLE and laggy

i used itunes to transfer a mp4, smooth and cool, with mplayer it lags and is very blurry

      - Permissions not set by package, needs chmod a+x via SSH/term
      - Requested audio codec family {mp3} (afm=mp3lib) not available /
Enable it at compilation / Cannot find codec 'mp3' in libavcodec... ADecoder init failed

      Don't bother with this version.
